I went in my coat pocket this morning and pulled out a ball of hair. At first this seemed strange but then I realized I still remember the supersitition my stepfather told me and act accordingly. He used to say if a mouse found your hair anywhere, it would take it to build it's nest and you would go crazy. He told us not to put it in the trash but flush it down the toilet. To this day, I am always cleaning out my hairbrushes and flushing the hair, cleaning it out the drain and flushing it. If I find loose hair on me, I ball it up and put it in my pocket until I can flush it. The only thing that has made me crazy is the gosh darn superstition!!!!

Well, my husband will NOT shower right after eating...something about it causing you to have a stroke???? Cubans have some weird "theories"...but then so do us Italians!

I grew up with loads! For example, a broom was never to be left with the bristles down, it had to be upside down or your luck would run out. Never have 2 mirrors facing each other. Break a mirror and 7 years bad luck. Never walk under a ladder. Watch out for black cats crossing your path. Never step on a crack. Never leave your house on Friday the 13th. If you said "devil" you had to spit on the ground (gross). My list could go on and on. Oh Tiff211, your baby is soooooo cute!

If someone sweeps or vacuums under your feet (you are sitting in a chair and raise your feet) you will never get married. :confused3

My mother, grandmother, aunts will refuse to enter any building, home, etc.. and not exit the same way, I can't figure that one out :confused3

I've also heard one about when you move you should leave your broom at the old house or you'll bring along any bad luck that was there.

Thanks!

I have heard all those except the devil one.

What about when someone says "don't point at me, my father's not dead" what the heck is that about?!

You can't shake off your table cloth after sunset or you will get bad luck...

I girl I used to work with would always lift her feet off the floor when driving over railroad tracks. I had never heard it was bad luck before.

She wasn't the brightest bulb, and I have often thought someone told her that so she would slow down when she went over rail road tracks.

Crickets are good luck if one gets in your house. You should never kill them.

It is bad luck to name a child after someone still living.

A friend in California told me to place bowls of water around my new apartment to remove the negative ectoplasm from the previous tenants.

My Mom does the exit thru the same door you came thru one. :confused3

And of course the walking under the ladder, don't step on the crack, and black cats.

when i was pregnant with my daughter...i would eat alot of strawberries at work and this lady would tell me if i keep eating those berries my daugther was gonna have a big strawberry birthmark!!!.. :confused3 ..i can tell you it didnt happen... :smooth:

My grandmother and mom have always told me never to wear anything around my neck while pregnant because according to Hawaiian superstition my baby will have the umbilical wrapped around its neck.

I don't always believe in superstitions, but they really freaked me while I was pregnant each time. ack - lol

I had a friend in high school that did that. Only, she not only lifted her feet, she had to put her right hand on the keys in the ignition, too :confused3

If you knock over a salt shaker, my mom has to shake it over her shoulder. I do not understand it and we always made fun of it when we were young, but I do feel a bit guilty when I don't do it!!! :guilty:

If you forward this post on to 15 of your closest friends, all of your wildest dreams will come true. ;)

That's strange. In my family the superstition was if you DON'T eat what you crave while pregnant, the baby will have a birthmark in the shape of that food. So, beware if you are pregnant and don't get that chicken leg you crave. :teeth:

Also, Italians say it is very bad luck to have a raccoon chatter at you.

We use to hold our breath when driving by a cemetary. I still knock on wood if I say something out loud, not to jinx it.
