"What's the Catch - Do I Not Get Bacon?" - 11/27 - TR started!

Yes - Happy Belated Canada Day. It looks like you had a fabulous weekend and I really enjoyed your pictures. That fort looks awesome and is something that is right up my alley. Love it.
Thanks! :goodvibes You should come visit some time hehe, I'll show you around the fort!

Glad that you are working on a possible solution for your trip. Getting a good flight and a free dining pin is certainly an advantage. F&W is fun, but I am sure you will have more than enough fun to make up for it. :thumbsup2
Yep, very true, and maybe even more fun avoiding the last weekend F&W crowd.

Looks like you had a fun weekend! It poured rain all weekend for me, as well, so I know how you feel about the mud and the mess. :rotfl:

Hmm, free dining is always tempting. I've been during the Food and Wine Festival twice now, and while it's a great experience, I don't think it's an ABSOLUTE must-do. But that's just my opinion. I'm not a drinker, and my husband's ridiculously picky when it comes to food, so we skipped 90% of the booths.
I think if you can still keep your golden Be Our Guest reservation and get a better price on flights, it's a better option. But, once again, that's just my 2 cents. I know there are DISers who'd not miss the festival for the world, so it's all about which option would make you the happiest.:goodvibes

Thanks for explaining Canada Day :)

I totally get why you would change your trip... In Jan we changed our dates purely on airline prices - saved us $400 in airfare! Now I will totally miss the Christmas decor however think of what I can do with that $400 in WDW!! ;)

It's been dry and hot since that weekend, and there's not a trace of mud left anywhere! Haha oh well, it never rains but it pours... You know, and vice versa.
Last time we tried the festival, we got exactly one thing from one booth so although we made big promises to each other of seeing and trying more, I can bet it would have turned out much the same. So I don't mind missing it for free dining!

You're welcome!
I always think of what I can do with the money I save- that's how I always end up at a value resort! Haha but this change should save us almost $1000!! I definitely can't turn that down!

It's still hot here! I'm dying a little bit without any A/C and our one fan for our top floor apartment (it's only 4 stories, but still)...I feel like I'm about to burn up! :furious: (I'm not really mad, just ignore the mad face) The biggest downside to living here is that when it gets hot like this we don't have A/C like many other cities, because we're just not used to getting heat like this for this long. Usually one day here and there in the summer, but I can't remember a time when it was around 30 degrees for a solid week. It's almost enough to make you sick

Anyway! My vacation went well, despite how hot I was the whole time. I didn't use my camera much, so I sort of chickened out, if you could call it that, and kept it on auto...I know, I know...:sad2: I really will have to take it out though and try it the proper way. I'll have to get my wife on my case about it

It's too hot for too long I can't stand it! Hahaha DH is looking at putting in an air conditioner (and you know that would mean the sun would disappear!) I can't imagine a top floor apartment, my little house it hot enough. You're so right though, we don't usually need any AC for our one to two really hot days, this year is nuts.

Glad your vacation went well, even if you did keep the camera on auto. Hehehe it is just a whole lot easier! Even I have to admit that.

You guys are not alone.... We have central air (an oddity in Northern NH) and its being running way too much... In the years past we have never ran it this much... Here's to hoping it breaks soon - because the only way I can tolerate the 6 month winter is with the beautiful summers!

Hi everyone! Just a quick update this morning. I haven't been around much. Summer really hit us and we're getting more really hot weather than we ever have. Yesterday broke records here and went up to 34 degrees (41 with humidex.. that works out to 105F) I haven't been indoors much, running from the AC at work to the AC in the truck to my parents' pool!

My father in law is doing ok after his hospital incident, my dog, Sheeka is recovering still, her knee is still coming along slowly, but unfortunately my cousin who was sick got some bad news. He has stage three liver cancer and it's too spread out to remove so his only option is a liver transplant. I have to admit that I haven't felt much up to DISing after we got that news. His sister drove home from Ottawa and is hanging around until after he gets tested to see if he's a candidate for a transplant. I didn't know this (you all might have, medical things are about as low on my forte list as you can get!) but they can take 70% of her healthy liver and transplant it to him and both will re-grow the rest. She's hoping she's a blood type match and that she will be able to do that for him. He's expecting a call any minute now to head to Halifax to do the testing. He's keeping his spirits up and seems to be determined and expecting the best. If you could, cross your fingers for him please. :goodvibes

So I apologize to everyone, I'm trying to get caught up on all your reports via my iPad on my lunch breaks! :rotfl:

I do have some trip news to share as well.

tumblr_mcqb8lZmYh1qhnr1lo1_500.gif

My Mother in law, our travel agent, was able to change our dates and re-book us from November 11 - 18th with the free dining pin! It saved us almost $1,000!! With the money we saved, we're buying a heat pump which, if you didn't know (like me) sounds like it heats your house (which it does,) but it also does air conditioning. I can't wait for this house to be cold again!! Lol

tumblr_m3cw111kPf1ro2qi2.gif

These new dates mean no Food & Wine, but all of our "important" ADRs are safe -- BOG, breakfast with cheekypoppins, Via Napoli, we only lose two Boma meals which I was easily able to re-book. When I have more time I'll post the new list of ADRs and day-by-day plans but I'm running really late for work!!

I was reading that there are a lot of places experiencing the same long heat wave. It's madness! Normally for one or two extremely hot days our house stays nice and cool so we've never needed the AC, but after two weeks of this my house feels like a sauna and I can't cool it down. I hope it breaks soon too (although according to our forecast this week is supposed to be a little bit cooler!)

I can understand why you are not in the mood to DIS much.... I hope for the best of luck and health for your cousin.

And yay for a heat pump!! I really hope it cools down, I miss sleeping with the windows open! It shows us cooling down this weekend....

I really enjoyed your Canada Day update. My DH and I really want to make a trip there within the next few years. We both love the Epcot film and it always makes us want to go.

Oh my goodness, your cousin will definitely be in my thoughts. Fingers crossed that he and his sister are a match.

Free dining is great, definitely worth the date change. :thumbsup2

Ugh, I am so with you on the heat!!!!!!!!! STOP NOW!! (Actually it's not that bad today).

Happy to hear about your FIL and doggie, but oh so sad to hear about your cousin. Fingers are crossed, toes are crossed, eyes are crossed. I hope beyond hope that all works out. :goodvibes

Yay on the trip news though. That's HUGE!! I'll be over to enjoy some of that air conditioning...

So sorry about your cousin, I hope good news comes soon! Congrats on the heat pump, I had one of those once and it was wonderful!!! And big time yeah for Free Dining and keeping important DISmeets and ressies!

I looked at a temperature map in the paper today and seriously almost all of North America was red!

Glad Sheeka and your FIL are doing well. Sorry to hear about your cousin's need for a liver transplant. That's tough. I hope everything works out.

On a lighter note - Yay for a pin code :cool1: and saving money. that's awesome!

Keeping you and all the family in my thoughts and fingers crossed for good news.

That is awesome about the pin!

It is holy cow hot here in Kentucky too. We were at the same temp today!

Thanks for the luck, I appreciate it and hope to find a way to pass along everyone's good wishes to my cousin.
Our weather has been cooler the last couple of days thank goodness. DH is getting all the information together on all the different pumps, but I think that by the time he figures it out it will be December! :rotfl:

I like the Epcot film, it does a good job of promoting the country! :goodvibes
Thank you for your thoughts, I really do appreciate it.
I know some people don't get the benefit of free dining but I love it, it works out really well for us!

It's actually cooling down a little, tonight I'm positively chilly! It's a nice change.
Thank you for your crossed digits and eyes, I really appreciate everyone's good wishes.
I'm very happy with our trip changes, being quite a cheapskate I like saving significant amounts of money. :goodvibes
Come visit me, I'll let you know when we have the AC installed!~ :thumbsup2

I can't wait to get the heat pump installed, hoping to get it soon but it seems like everything keeps taking up our time! Hehe oh well, we'll have it in time for next summer!
Free Dining was an excellent move for us, so glad we got the pin. AND get to keep all our special ressies!
Yes, everyone's got a heat wave! Thankfully ours broke a little, we've had two nice cool days, it's so refreshing!

Thanks Mary Ellen, for your hope!
I'm very excited about the pin code, it worked out really well for us! :goodvibes

Thank you for your fingers crossed! I appreciate it.
I was excited that the pin worked out so well for us, man it saved us big time!
Thankfully our weather broke a little, it's cool this evening and really, really nice! Hope it breaks for everyone else too. :goodvibes

Sending good thoughts your way for your cousin. :(

It's great that you were able to switch your dates and take advantage of free dining, all while keeping your hard-to-get ADRs. :thumbsup2 And it's even better that you can use that money to cool down your house! The heat can be pretty unbearable if you're inside with no breeze or cold air flowing.

Yes, so glad for the free dining (and air conditioner! hehe)

Hi everyone! I intended to do this update at work today, it's super hot out and I figured that would mean it would be dead in the store but we ended up actually really busy! Johnny is gone to a car race a few hours away

cars-disney-o.gif

... and I'm off for the rest of the weekend so I'm going to do a proper update now!

Not much is new in life, just keeping on keeping on. It's yet another incredibly hot day, 33 degrees (40 with humidity, that's 104F.) AGAIN. We NEVER get this much hot weather in one summer! And remember that air conditioner I spoke about? We still don't have one. Johnny, bless him, wants to do his homework fully before buying a unit, but he's taking his good old time with it. I really wish we had it today! At least my mother in law has AC and I'm hanging out at her place this afternoon! :thumbsup2 I had AC at work today too.

Frozen-logo.gif

(Well, you know, comfortably chilled.)

Just a funny story before I go on, at work we transfer VHS and other old tapes to DVD and yesterday we were transferring one when I heard some familiar music -- home videos from Walt Disney World, 1992! Hehe I had fun watching that.

So as you know we have changed our dates. We got a Free Dining pin and went for it! Our dates are now November 11 - 18. We didn't have to change too much as far as ADRs are concerned, so here's the new list:

Tuesday, November 12 - Via Napolo, Dinner - 4:30
Wednesday, November 13 - Kona Cafe, Breakfast - 8:30AM (with cheekypoppins!)
Wednesday, November 13 - Be Our Guest, Dinner - 6:20
Thursday, November 14 - T-REX, Dinner - 5:00pm
Friday, November 15 - Sci-Fi Dine-In Theatre
Saturday, November 16 - Boma, Dinner - 6:30
Monday, November 18 - Boma, Breakfast - 7:30 (--> This one is a hopeful ADR, we leave on the 18th and are hoping to book late flights out, but as of now we don't have our flights booked.)

So as you can see, not very many changes at all! That's good, I liked things the way they were.

tumblr_lxcusc6eFo1r6h4d9o1_500.gif

Remember those pesky flights we were worrying about? Well good news on that front too -- we now, as of yesterday, have enough AirMiles to book our flights!! We're going to do them tomorrow, so hopefully I'll have an update tomorrow!

Looks like your trip plans are falling into place! :thumbsup2

The heat has been brutal this week in our DC area with highs in the mid 90s but the humidex or heat index or whatchamacallits that meterologists like to use for the temp of how it feels has been 105-110. Thank goodness for AC, that's all I've got to say. ;)
