"What's the Catch - Do I Not Get Bacon?" - 11/27 - TR started!

I completely understand! We are considering a trip in October! We got a pin so why not use it haha :) However the flights are another story. I wouldn't find flying from Halifax but even then we only get in at 4 instead of noon. Hopefully they will add more flights!

We need teleporters here to get around easier don't we? Haha but until then here's hoping for some more flights to be added for October and November!

Getting caught up!

Bahaha to Brenda with the "Wave to Rob". Oh my that was cute. :goodvibes

I feel your pain regarding flight options. Of course you have the one extra hop, so even worse for you. I always get so envious of the flights others get for those ridiculously low prices.
It's a shame that you are sooo close to direct flights coming out from Hali to MCO. They usually kick in around the first week or so of December.

My fingers are crossed that something good comes along!

Ill say it again, someone please invent a teleporter! Haha
Direct to mco out of Halifax? I had no idea there was any such thjng! I so wish that was an option for me!
Oh well. Ill just have to keep my fingers crossed too!

Sorry things are not working out for your flights. Can you add an extra day on the front end to make up for the midnight arrival?

I know you have posted your flight path before, but it really is ridiculous how you can't get a flight that just goes down the Eastern seaboard.

Loved the update. Loved Oscar's kitten picture. I almost forgot you guys found him in the airport. And look at him now.

Thank you for the white balance lesson. So, is there really much difference between cloudy and shady? I have the hardest time with those two and I mostly just use auto, but I am going to get bold and use tungsten!

So sorry to hear about the frustration you are having with the flights!!! Hope you find something acceptable in both pricing and timing

:wizard:

We can, neither of us really wants to take more time off work than we are but it might have to happen. We also have another option that might see us push the whole thing ahead by about three days... I have to check into that one a little more first but it's a possibility.

I know you have posted your flight path before, but it really is ridiculous how you can't get a flight that just goes down the Eastern seaboard.
Wouldn't that just be ideal? Although Rob (DisneyKid4Life) says there's one direct out of Halifax to MCO that starts in December. Darn! Too late!

He's come a long way my boy!

Honestly, I've never seen much difference between cloudy and shade at all! There might be a slight temperature difference depending on the camera, but auto will almost always serve you well. Tungsten is the only other one I ever (rarely) use!

So sorry to hear about the frustration you are having with the flights!!! Hope you find something acceptable in both pricing and timing

Thanks, me too! I had no idea it was going to be this hard to find a decent flight!

Awww thanks, Dee! I had a great one. :goodvibes

Ha! Sarah I had the same question. I had to wiki it and I'm still not entirely sure. I think it's similar to our July 4th?? :confused3

My apologies to all my Canadian pals (Wendy, that means you!) to whom I completely failed to wish Happy Canada Day!! :p Are there any traditional foods that are consumed in celebration?

Wendy: So sorry for the frustration with the flights. Paying out of pocket when you have so many miles is not appealing.

So pardon my ignorance, what exactly is Canada Day?

Ha! Sarah I had the same question. I had to wiki it and I'm still not entirely sure. I think it's similar to our July 4th?? :confused3
Yup, pretty much!

My apologies to all my Canadian pals (Wendy, that means you!) to whom I completely failed to wish Happy Canada Day!! :p Are there any traditional foods that are consumed in celebration?
Hot dogs. :rotfl: Hahaha Oh I kid, but that's not far from true. Not really any traditional foods, more like it's tradition to eat a lot of food. Mostly picnic food since we tend to spend the whole day outside at parties/activities. So... yeah! Hot dogs! :rotfl:

Wendy: So sorry for the frustration with the flights. Paying out of pocket when you have so many miles is not appealing.
Thanks, I think we may have a solution. Stay tuned! ;)

Canada Day is basically the day we celebrate the birth of our country. It is the anniversary of the July 1, 1867 British North America Act when the first three colonies (now Nova Scotia - my home!, New Brunswick, Quebec and Ontario - yes I know that's four, Quebec and Ontario used to be one) were formed into a country called Canada. :goodvibes It's a mandatory federal holiday which is lovely. There are lots of activities going on in every town, parties with kids activities, BBQs, fireworks, all that fun stuff. Oh, and we have free admission to all national parks, national historic sites and national marine conservation areas across the country. :thumbsup2

Hi everyone! :wave2:

To my Canadian friends, a bit belated but:

I hope you had a great long weekend!

To my American friends:

Have a fun day today!

To my friends from other countries, I apologize but I do not know when you celebrate. But have a wonderful day anyway!

So Monday was Canada Day which meant I had a long weekend. It rained a lot last week, as well as Saturday but Sunday cleared up a bit. We went to a campground for the day/evening with my in-laws who stayed all weekend. Here are some pictures of that day:

(See, Brenda? Hot dogs! :rotfl2: )

This is a really awesome campground in a beautiful part of Cape Breton called Margaree. This lake is Lake O'Law. If anyone ever comes to Cape Breton, you should check it out.

Because of all the rain, the whole place was soggy despite the sun coming out that day. MIL was in the lowest camp site in the whole place, I'm sure, and so we were literally slopping through mud. Most of us took our shoes off. Here's Johnny's feet to show you what we all looked like:

But we had fun anyway.

The only dry place for the dogs to sit:

The sky turned absolutely gorgeous:

We drove home (2 hours!) and got scrubbed clean (a real effort after all that mud dried!) and fell right asleep.

(Continued in next post)

Next day? Back up and at 'em! It was Canada Day and we were taking advantage of free admission to the Fortress of Louisbourg, partial reconstruction of an 18th-century French fortress. It was such a desirable location at the time for its far eastern point and fishing, the French and English fought over it. The English won eventually, but they later destroyed it. It was re-built in the 1960s.

Here are some pictures from the Fort!

It's ALWAYS foggy in Louisbourg. And cold. The rest of the island was hot and sunny. It's a running joke here in Cape Breton. Oh well! Johnny says they were geniuses to build a fort where they did -- the fog conceals the whole thing from the water!

Again with the mud, you can see what a week of heavy rain will do.

The whole place is one big museum, most of the buildings have signs and plaques saying what they are and what they were used for.

We ran into my aunt, uncle and two cousins (eeyore04 and her family). David is an animator at Louisbourg and the rest of the family were there to see him and enjoy the day. They took a pic of Johnny and I too :)

(Johnny's shirt says "Made In Canada" and mine under my sweater says "My Home And Native Land" so even though they're both blue, they're Canada shirts! We didn't want to wear red -- the colour of the British -- to the french fort)

We had a great time at the Fortress and I highly, highly recommend anyone coming this way go visit! All the animators will stop and pose for pictures or talk to you. If you wear red -- beware! They WILL stop you and question you as a British spy. ;)

So that was my busy weekend and the main reason I haven't been back to Dis in a while. Today I'm off and so I'm trying to catch up before it gets overly hot -- then I go to visit my parents and their pool. :thumbsup2

Just a quick update before I go though, on the actual trip (you know, the main reason for this thread at all. hehehe I got side tracked today.) We may have a solution that benefits us in two ways... but requires great sacrifice.

A few weeks ago I got the email many dream of -- a free dining pin. The problem was I had to check in on or after Nov. 11 and we were booked for the 9th. We decided to wait to see if general free dining might come out and hope for the best.

So far? No general FD. Hmm...

After our flight fiasco we decided to check for flights on the 11th, just in case. Turns out I can get a flight with my AirMiles (only 95 away from enough now!!) on the 11th, leaving Sydney at 11am and arriving in Disney at 7:00pm. Not bad! It's still a little later than I would like, but it's really not that bad. So we might see if we can switch to the 11th. Better flight, free dining. I won't miss my Be Our Guest meal (thank heavens, I know I wouldn't be lucky enough to get another!) or my breakfast with cheekypoppins!

The sacrifice?

We miss the Food & Wine Festival.

Oh well. I don't drink wine and I'm really picky so I don't get a lot out of the F&W anyway. I can live with this. MIL (aka our travel agent) is camping on Prince Edward Island (neighbouring province) this whole week so next week when she's back we're going to look into this and probably do it. We shall see!

Wendy it sounds like your later date option with a FD pin may be the best answer! I know the anticipation of going during F&W may sounds like a disappointment now but I can imagine that when you are there without F&W you'll still be VERY glad that you went!! :thumbsup2 I hope it works out! :)

Thanks for sharing a little Candadian history! Completely sounds like our July 4th even down to the hot dogs! It's very likely I will have one of those today myself! (And thanks for the shout out to those of us celebrating our Independence Day here in the US.)

Your province is so beautiful with the lush green landscape and lakes. I love historical places especially old battle grounds, forts, and such so your excursion to that fort was very interesting. I would definitely have to remember not to wear red! :p

Enjoy your day off and I'll look forward to your update next week!

Yes, unfortunately the more I look at it, the more the later date seems like the answer. That's ok, I think I've already made peace with missing the Food & Wine. After all I don't really like food and I hate wine. Hahaha

Hoping you had a great 4th celebration, and even had a hot dog! Canada day is very similar and from what I've seen, celebrated in much the same way.

Aww thanks, honestly I love my province. It really is beautiful! History is not an easy thing for me to enjoy, but the Fortress is so interesting that I can get really into it there.

Thanks again, hoping I can get my dates fixed up ASAP when MIL gets home!

Great photos of Louisbourg! Its one of may fav places to visit. The first time we took DS he was wearing red. He had no clue why the gentleman at the gate wasn't going to let him in :rotfl2: Then he spoke French and DS answered so he let him through!

Flights from our neck of the woods can be difficult and we pay WAY too much. Good luck with whatever decision you make.

It's great that you may have found a solution to your flight woes! But it does kinda suck that you loose a few days...would you consider adding a few on the other end to make up for it? Arriving late also kinda sucks, having done it twice, but it does mean virtually no line for the ME and check-in! :thumbsup2

Sounds like you guys had a great Canada Day despite the soggy weather we've been having. Yesterday it finally stopped raining here and it got hot - I mean, Florida hot

Also, loved your Louisbourg photos! I've still never been, but one day I will get there to see it in all it's foggy glory  I'm going away this weekend, so hopefully I can get a chance to try out some of the tips you've been leaving here :thumbsup2

Wendy, great explanation of Canada Day. I think it really is more less the same as Independence Day in the US as far as celebration is concerned. BBQ, fireworks, all that good stuff. And yes... Hot Dogs.

Thanks for the journey around Louisbourg. It sure has been years since I've been there.

And yay on the potential new flight plan. I know some people swear by the Food and Wine Festival, and it is pretty neat, but just between you and me (haha) it's not that big of a deal.

Happy Belated Canada Day! What a fun fun couple of days but ugh, that was muddy! Lovely fireworks pics and I really enjoyed the Loiusbourg tour. Free dining and the date change, with the new flights really does sound like a much better fit. I adore F&W but also get that it's not for everyone so good that it's only a nice to have and not a need to have.

I'm almost ashamed to admit but it was the first time I've been to the Fortress as a normal guest in almost 20 years! And I only live 45 minutes from it. DH and I made it our mission two years ago to spend every summer exploring everything we can about the island, so I was glad to check the Fortress officially off the list! It must have been too funny when your DS answered in French!
Thanks for the luck and understanding, we definitely do pay too much from around here -- in Sydney it's mainly due to lack of competition for sure.

Yep definitely, we're just thinking of moving the whole trip ahead, still staying a week. And you're right about the benefits of arriving late -- silver linings!

Sounds like you guys had a great Canada Day despite the soggy weather we've been having. Yesterday it finally stopped raining here and it got hot - I mean, Florida hot
We got it the day after, and it's STILL HERE! I'm melting already! With no air conditioned rides or attractions to cool me down, it's not pleasant! :rotfl:

Also, loved your Louisbourg photos! I've still never been, but one day I will get there to see it in all it's foggy glory  I'm going away this weekend, so hopefully I can get a chance to try out some of the tips you've been leaving here :thumbsup2
You should definitely make trip down and see the Fortress, it's really interesting and definitely worth seeing. Wear some sturdy shoes and do the ruins walk where you can see all the original foundations and things from the town! Oh, and have fun this weekend and let me know how it goes with your camera!

Wendy, great explanation of Canada Day. I think it really is more less the same as Independence Day in the US as far as celebration is concerned. BBQ, fireworks, all that good stuff. And yes... Hot Dogs.
Thanks! I may have had to Google some specifics... :upsidedow It's been a while since I've taken a history course!

Thanks for the journey around Louisbourg. It sure has been years since I've been there.
Me too, and I'm only 45 minutes away. I guess you take things for granted when they're that close!

And yay on the potential new flight plan. I know some people swear by the Food and Wine Festival, and it is pretty neat, but just between you and me (haha) it's not that big of a deal.
You know, you're right. I've done it twice and can honestly say it's not a big deal for me personally. Also the crowds are nuts!

Happy Belated Canada Day! What a fun fun couple of days but ugh, that was muddy! Lovely fireworks pics and I really enjoyed the Loiusbourg tour. Yes, the mud was ridiculous. We've since had about 4 days of intense Florida style heat (yesterday was 34 degrees, 40 with humidex. That would be 93.2, feels like 104F! That's really hot for our area!) So I bet the mud is all gone now, a week too late!
F&W was something I wanted to make myself love but honestly, I hate wine! :rotfl2: So you're right, it was a nice to have, not a need to have, and the new potential flight plan works out much better. :thumbsup2

A much belated Happy Canada Day!

Hoping that you can work in a free dining for your trip!
Thank you!
It's not looking good, I must say, but I've made peace with that. Nothing set in stone yet, but we're hoping to get things done this week!

Yes - Happy Belated Canada Day. It looks like you had a fabulous weekend and I really enjoyed your pictures. That fort looks awesome and is something that is right up my alley. Love it.

Glad that you are working on a possible solution for your trip. Getting a good flight and a free dining pin is certainly an advantage. F&W is fun, but I am sure you will have more than enough fun to make up for it. :thumbsup2
