I'm interested to know what the biggest pearl everyone has gotten... size and color :)

I love picking pearls we almost always pick one, never set them unless they are really good... ( i know, i know, that isn't good for the pearl...)

Wait... you can pick pearls?! Please explain!

I love pearls!! Thank you in advance for this! :worship:

In the japan pavilion inside the department store there in an area where you pick an oyster and they open it up and pull the pearl out for you. I find it quite addicting and love pearls myself.

They have the same thing at downtown disney but I've had terrible service there a few times, and I think it is a few other places-the beach club resort by the pool and maybe a water park (I've never been to the waterparks so I'm not 100% sure)

Seaworld and universal city walk also have booths, but none are as fun as at Japan. :)

I did this on our last trip on our date night. It was really fun, but not something I would do everytime. We went late in the evening and the person before me got the biggest pearl of the day 9 mm. I got the second biggest of the day! 8.5mm! I had mine set in a necklace charm that has two leaves on it. It was kind of unique, I thought. I have yet to take it out of the box (8 months later!). Also, mine was slightly pink.

When we went to pick up my setting there was a set of twins girls, about 12, and they each got a clam. Both of them got doubles! That was fun to see!

Mine was nice and glossy and we set it there in a really funky swirl. This was back in 2008 when we took the kids.

And then, for my anniversary this year, my DH took me into the Japan Pavillion Mikimoto's and "made" me pick a ring to match it. It has 4 delicate little pearls in a tree-like swirl on the ring.

Absolutely the most perfect thing. Worn them both 4 times.

The Pick a Pearl (or Pearl Factory) locations at the Boardwalk, Downtown Disney and the water parks are different than the one in the Japan Pavilion. The Pearl Factory is a Hawaii based company and they have locations in California, Nevada and Florida as well as Hawaii of course.

Just two weeks ago I watched some of the pearls being picked in Japan and I found them to be smaller than the ones at the Pearl Factory. I should say that I own about 10-15 pieces of pearl jewelry all being "picked" from the Pearl Factory. The Pearl Factory is more expensive than those in Japan and they probably offer a higher quality selection of jewelry. (Diamond / gemstone / gold settings).

From the Pearl Factory I have picked blue, silver, black and white pearls. All of various sizes.

I am not trying to say go to one or the other. It just all depends on what you want. I will say I was just about in tears when a family of four (mom, dad and two little girls were picking their pearls). They were so excited and and amazed and the I think the dad was a little misty that he was buying his little girls their first piece of good jewelry.

our biggest was 7 1/4 last Dec. in Japan

On my trip last May I did this twice, once I had the pearl set in a very simple type pendant but it went perfectly with the pearl. It has a vintage look to it, but my chain broke and the pendant fell off somewhere. :headache: I still have the other pearl in a baggie they give you and I think I will get it set when I go next month. I might get another pearl also

I'd like to do this with my 2 "big" girls. What does it cost?

It is around $17 I think with tax included. Then you pay for the setting. They have cages on ebay that you can buy. I do believe that those are only good for smaller pearls though.

I picked 4 last trip. Two are very white, one pinkish and one goldish. One is 7.5 and the two are 7 3/4 and one is 8 1/4. I swapped one for a "mate" and made a pair of simple stud earrings. I also have the 7.5 in the pumpkin coach cage from ebay and the big one is still in the baggie. I plan on having it drilled and just letting it free float on a chain.

I wear my pearl earrings to work at least once a week and the coach necklace a few times a month.

Mine was only 6.5, but they made a big deal out of it and banged the gong because it was grey. Very lovely and unique, if I do say so myself!

I once picked a gold pearl that was 8 and 3/4. They made a pretty big deal about it. This one woman was so cute and kept saying "8 and 3/4 enormous pearl!"

This sounds like soo much fun. I've never heard of this before. Looks like I will be dragging my hubby to Japan when we go in Jan. :cool1:

My 2 girls did this and my youngest got a 7 mm and my oldest got a 7 1/4 mm. I am going to have them set into rings when I can. All in all it was a lot of fun and something we would do again if we ever go back to Disney.

DD has 4 pearls from "Japan".
The biggest is 8mm.
We did not have any put into a setting.

We got a 9mm pearl color and a 7.5 silver one. Also an 8.5 pearl colored one that we lost. Fun experience for not too much money.

The 9 mm would not fit in the cage. The 8.5 barely did but it was possible. And the 7.5 silver one looks awesome in the carriage cage.
