Hello,
We're going to WDW Jan. 31, 2003. Our 6 yr. old boy is a collector of all kinds of things. We thought pin collecting might be a great way to get some memorable souveniors and satisfy his collecting urge. We feel Santa would be a great way to get him started, but Santa needs some help with some suggestions for starting a pin collection. Any suggestions welcome.
Thanks :earsboy:

To start a collection for him, The Disney Store has pins with a variety of characters and themes and they are priced reasonable. They do have a 'starter lanyard' that has a Mickey and a Minnie to keep and one to trade. Also check out the Disney Catalog, online catalog as well. Perhaps Santa could also bring him some doubles...one to keep, one to trade in WDW. Also check the auction sites. Many times there are a 'lot' of pins up for auction....I have bought these and kept some I wanted and traded with the others.

The first time my son did trading in WDW he was 7. He had a lanyard and pins he wouldn't mind parting with. He just traded with the cast members. That was plenty of fun for him! He just picked out pins that caught his fancy. He also had a *Pin* autograph book and would have the CM that he traded with sign it and then we took a pic....like you do with the characters! It has made for a lovely rememberance.

Have fun!

Thanks for the great ideas!!! This is going to be a fun christmas and an even funner Disney Trip!!!

Leave a note for "Santa" to get to one of TDS's and grab some pins at 50% off. Make sure you buy two of everything because you never know what he will like, and it probably will be everything. Then he has one to keep and one to trade.
You can also ask "Santa" to pick him up a pin book either at the store if they have one, or through the catalog.
Then set him free in the parks to have fun and trade for what he wants. Peggie

Dear Mickeycrazy

There is no better time than NOW to start pin collecting!

The Disney Store has tons of pins 12 Months of Magic , Toy Story and Pooh series all reduced 50%! That's a $5.00 pin for $2.50. But wait, it gets even better! They have lowered the price again, all the way down to $2.00 per pin...WOW....making it a 60% savings! If you are a Disney Club Member, you can take an extra 10% off that!!!

Pin collecting and trading is a great hobby and pins make perfect stocking stuffers too! Happy trading!!!

Your pin pal...Disneyboy

We went to WDW with my husband's brother and family last month. We knew they would be bored to death with our pin collecting obsession. So we gave each of them a Disney Store lanyard, some "cheapie" pins and a couple of "good Collector" pins that we knew they would like. It truly inspired their curiosity - each person developed their own pin interests while there and had great fun with it, mostly trading with cast members. Our nephew became a great "spotter" for us too, checking every lanyard he saw and reporting back. It was great fun for all of us - great souvenirs and great memories.

...send 'em over to my house for a few days. After a few hours with my kids they will be hooked!

Our kids love pin trading. we started in Jan of 2000 with DS pins, each child started with about 10 pins each. We ended up going to the DS store in Orlando for more since they are so much cheaper than the pins in the park. The kids started to look for certian types of pins. one looked for goofy and LE pins, one looked for animal, bunnies and cats. We only let our kids trade with cast members, untill they get older then they trade with others but we watch them close to avoid the 'sharks'. It has turned into a family event and we all really enjoy it. Go to www.cheappins.com and you will find lots of disney pins for great prices. There are alot from disney paris on there right now. Some pins are in the $2.00 range I think you will be happy with what you see here. Our 7 year old did not like to wear a lanyard, so wore them on his shirt or a hat and traded from there. Make sure to carry some extras since once kids make a trade they don't want to trade that pin away ever.
Our kids loved to talk to CM's also even if they were not trading they learned so much.
Have a fun trip.
