DH and I need some time alone! Over the past few months my grandmother has been very sick and I've had to be with her almost 24 hours a day 7 days a week, and DH got a huge promotion which has kept him busy all the time as well. We finally decided we need some US time and we need it soon!

We are considering a Carnival Cruise out of New Orleans that goes to Jamaica, the Caymans and Cozumel....but we are all open to suggestions.

We do have APs so could go to Disney for a week but I just don't enjoy Disney as much this time of year.

We are open to ANY suggestions.....nothing over the top expensive but something nice, fun, romantic....anything...

Disney is always good, but 2 of my other favorite alternatives were these:

Honeymoon in the British Virgin Islands. We stayed at a resort on Virgin Gorda that was only accessible by boat! We flew to San Juan, then flew on a 12 seater to Tortola, then took the boat over. All inclusive of your meals and water sports, drinks were 'extra'. At the end of our 10 days, our bar bill was $32, I think they missed a couple :rotfl:

The other GREAT trip was to Seattle, British Columbia, and Alberta. We flew to Seattle, drove over to Banff in Alberta, stayed for a week, then drove back to BC, heading out to Vancouver Island and this tiny town called Tofino. We went whale watching in Inflatable boats and dry suits, and saw 3 different pods of Orca (Shamu). Spectacular stuff.

I would definetly do a cruise. We Love them and we will be going on another in May.We cant wait cruises are so Romantic.

We did a short 4 day trip to San Francisco, to get out the snow. It was great. Our hotel was just off the Cable Car route. We saw Alcatraz, Fishermans Wharf, and walked all along the coastline to the Golden Gate Bridge.

I'd make sure the ship was one of the newer ones and also
that my cabin was not one of the cheapest. My fav vacations
with DH were at opposite ends of the spectrum in cost and
location. #1 African safari in Bostwana/South Africa/Zimbabwe
-it was sooo romantic and exciting. Travelling over lands barely
touched by man, the way God meant them to be. Man oh Man!

#2 U. S. Virgin Islands eco resort called Maho Bay. We had our
own cabin/tent perched right over all the georgous flora and
fauna. The best snorkeling on the island within walking distance.
Gourmet vegetarian meals nightly at sunset with a great view.
Romance and fun abounds.

DH doesn't like cruising-too formal for him. I have gotten him on
a few ships that offered unique destinations or things like climbing
walls...We often take dinner in our room or informally and use
parts of the ship that are really busy during formal dining times.
I always get one night to dress up and enjoy that part. You might
find us from time to time in the casino at roulette too.

I can also say that one of our all time most romantic short vacations was to San Francisco. We walked all day, had great
food and wine at night. We love SFO, the scenery is awesome and the eclectic population is like no other in the U.S.

Last -best night of vacation. We rented a condo on a marina in
Newport Oregon with a sunset view. We drank wine, ate fresh
crab and sat on our balcony during the entire sunset. Great memories! Romance in spades!

it was a toss up between going with our two kids....their spouses and the grandkids......and then again when we took our two kids ...one of the spouses and the grandkids and my husbands mom.....she was in her late 80s and we had a blast......four generations of disers.....I am anxious to go again and bring our kids their spouses and the grandkids and then our soon to be born grandson......then it will be another of those toss ups......just love to be with our families....

Aruba was nice, but my favorite was Virginia! :teeth:

I would say a cruise would be a nice holiday for you. I have 2 favourite holidays. The first was going to Las Vegas and staying in the Venetian hotel (we got up graded to a high roller suite!!) and going on a helicopter flight over the hover dam and through the Grand Canyon, then landing on the canyon floor for lunch then flying back down the strip. The second was last year staying for 2 weeks in the BCV and spending our wedding anniversary at Discovery Cove swimming with the dolphins and then going for a meal at the California Grill with our best friends.

I hope you enjoy your trip what ever you decide to do, you deserve it.

If I was planning a trip for just me and my DH, I would definetly go to Las Vegas!! We're not big gamblers but I know that that would be a fun place to be, just the two of us. :smooth:

First of course would be Walt Disney World.

Second, we would love to go back to Williamsburg. Also, we had a great time when we went to Mystic and would love to do that Cape Cod area but, right now, waaaaay to cold.

I actually hadn't thought about Discovery Cove. That may be an excuse to get DH to agree to Disney again.

We have also tossed around Vegas but aren't gamblers...but I'm sure there are tons and tons of shows and other things to do.

Has anyone been on the Carnival Conquest??

We went to Aruba for our honeymoon and loved it! It's below the hurricane belt (just in case you decide to go during hurricane season), it's a desert island with a 2-3 week rainy season each year - which is in December, so you've missed that. The weather is constant, it's very different from other islands. We really enjoyed it.:sunny:

DH just threw out the Smoky Mountains ... I swear we are going from one extreme to the next!!

Mary Jo I would love to go to Key West but they wouldn't let me have a KITTY!

Smokey mountains are beautiful! And there are cabins you can rent with hot tubs on the deck! GOrgeous. Lots of things to do and see if you don't want to stay in your room. We went a couple of years ago to Gatlinburg. Some hotels are inexpensive. WE stayed in a sleep in that had a lazy river in the enclosed pool. It was very clean. It was only about 45 bucks a night. We are thinking of taking a short trip back there.

Have fun whatever you decide.

Cathy

We went to the Smokey Mountains and was the vacation from "down under". The cabin was wonderful and the scenery breath taking, it was other factors beyond the control of those in the Smokey Mountains.

Best vacation I've ever been on was a cruise, but I so far havne't been on anything else except DCL.

I can just see Ellie Mae coming out to see us....LOL!

John kills me, he says Cancun, then a cruise, then Vegas, then the Smokey Mountains.

I'm ready to tell him just let me know when he decides, I'll be in Disney :p

Cathy the cabins is what he was considering.

Aloha.....our best vacations (besides Disney of course) have been to Hawaii...although right now we are talking about Vegas being our next vacation. I'm not a gambler either, but I am intrigued with the great hotels, the dining and the shopping & entertainment.

We traveled to the Smokies with a group some years ago and it was actually quite modern and built-up, at least in the area we stayed in. I like the idea of a cabin with a nice fire and a hot tub and a view... It sounds VERY romantic.

As for where we had fun, we enjoyed San Diego because DH loves southern California and San Diego is so beautiful with a lot to do. We also had fun in New Orleans but we just wanted to eat and party and there is nowhere better for that. :)

I have been on two cruises which I LOVED. they were not DCL though.
I have been to Vegas too. I liked it as well.
My DH will not fly and will not cruise, so we are limited to driving vacations. Last year we took a long driving vacation out west. 4100 miles in about 12 days.... whew.
The Smokey Mountains one was a short trip but was very relaxing. It was breathtaking.
We didn't stay in the cabins cause we were going several places (I visited a friend who raises Koi and I had to bring three new babies home to my pond~!) and wanted to be flexible. If we go back, I think we will rent a cabin.

I would love to go to Hawaii. DOn't know if I will ever get there though. Am sure DH will never go
:(
Cancun is wonderful too. I loved my trip there a few years ago. Never saw prettier water in my life!

San Diego is great too. Good food too.

New Orleans is another place I really want to go. We could drive there too :)

Lots of good info on the internet.

One more thing, one of the cruises I took was out of BOston to Bermuda. It was the greatest trip! OUr ship docked the whole time there (Norwegian Cruise Line- can't say enough good about it!) so you could leave and explore the island and go back to the ship whenever you felt like it- to eat or rest or whatever. It was Fabulous! Spent a couple of days in Boston before we left on the cruise and that was great too.
Whew, I'm windy tonight! LOL

Best of luck.
Cathy
