We've only been to Pizza Planet as our kids are little, but not sure if I want to do that again this trip. Any ideas? Should we skip our Counter svc and eat at our Resort @ Saratoga instead?

What do you mean?

That pretty much means that if you are really looking for "good" CS in HS your really not going to find it. We tried both ABC Commissary and Backlot Express in February and would choose not to dine at either again...EVER! I'm not even sure that the Ckn Curry we got in ABC was even edible. :confused3

Definately try to get an ADR for a TS if you want to stay in the park to eat or go with your second idea and just skip CS inside the park alltogether and dine at your resort. You'll be glad you did!

DHS is a real puzzler, food-wise. The closest thing we've ever had to a bad Disney food experience was at ABC Commissary. It was pretty rough.

For burgers, though, the Backlot Express is OK, nuttin' special. That's pretty much it. Two of our favorite TS spots are there, however, so go figure.

It'd take a chunk out of your day, but we like Artist's Palette at SSR just fine. We really like their flatbreads, and they usually have some good daily special working.

OR - hop a boat over to the Yatch/Beach club and get a fine burger and a sundae at Beaches & Cream!!!

Beaches & Cream - never thought of that...Thanks! Isn't that where they have that Kitchen sink sundae? My kids really want that! Do I need reservations for that?

It is a good idea unless you are on the basic dining plan. Beaches and Cream is not on the dining plan CS list.

We only eat at Backlot Express which I like or Pizza Planet (when forced!). Backlot has a couple of sandwiches I think are pretty good:

Grilled Turkey & Cheese with arugula and red peppers served with French fries or carrot sticks $8.29

Grilled Vegetable Sandwich - black olive ciabatta roll, mushrooms, red peppers, zucchini, tomato, watercress and cheese with sundried tomato pesto and black bean salad $8.39

I think their burgers are good also. :)

We had great veggie burgers at DHS. I could have sworn the place was called Rosies, but Im looking on the map and I dont see that...so i could be wrong! It was close to RockNRoller Coaster, and had a bunch of outdoor seating available.

Edited to add: On the other hand, we LOVE CS at SSR! The buffalo chicken flatbread is DELISH!

We liked ABC Commisary and had it twice last trip. We also ordered from Rosies & Catalina Eddies (really close proximity) one year and sat at those outside tables and it was enjoyable.

I had the Cuban sandwich at ABC and it was good.....if ordered again though I'd get the apple slices instead of the chips.

At Rosie's we got burgers, Eddies's pizza.

There is also a place really close to those two with turkey legs and foot long hot dogs that looked really good!

My DH and I ate at PP a few years ago and it was fine. We got the pizza/salad combo and it was really good. I would go back.

I do feel like there are not as many CS at HS compared with the other parks.

Actually, our favorite counter service at DHS is Starring Rolls Cafe. Their sandwiches and desserts are actually really excellent, and it isn't crowded at all. It's as though nobody knows it's there or something.

We have never been fortunate enough to have a good counter service experience at DHS. Never. Not in 5 years and as many visits. We like to get there early and ride ToT and RnR as many times as we can then head over to Epcot for lunch, usually Sunshine Seasons.

Beaches & Cream - never thought of that...Thanks! Isn't that where they have that Kitchen sink sundae? My kids really want that! Do I need reservations for that?

Yup, kitchen sink @ Beaches & Cream! They don't take reservations.

We'll definitely try Starring Rolls to use a snack credit - heard it's great. Thanks for all your ideas. Unless the kids force into pizza planet, I think we'll be heading back to SSR for lunch!

Thanks again!

The BEST CS at HS is Sunset Market...

There you have the BEST selection.....with everything from an Italian Sub.....Hamburger...Pizza.....Vegetarian Selection....Everything. Work lunch in ....in between visiting ToT and RnR.

My second recommendation would be the commissary.

Isn't BC "Beaches & Cream" either NOT on the DDplan OR a TS meal?

Hugs,
Mary
