I'd have to say, VAN HALEN. Jamie's Cryin, Aint talkin bout love, Eruption, Ice cream man...all HUGE songs..nobody had ever heard anyone doing those things with a guitar..Eddie is a genius!

Does it have to be just one?

Tango in the Night - Fleetwood Mac - No, it's not a fair representation of the Buckingham Nicks era, but it's got a really killer 80s sound, and Lindsey Buckingham was doing things with synthesizers that no one else was.

Lightyears - Kylie Minogue - Definitely one of the best pop albums ever put out there, consistent from start to finish, although I think Bittersweet Goodbye should have been put at the end of the album.

Upstairs at Eric's - Yaz(oo) - Way, way ahead of its time. I don't think that any group had as much influence as they did with only 2 albums and 5 singles in the 2 years they were active.

Eat to the Beat - Blondie - Solid album, not the hit generator that Parallel Lines was, but still one of the few albums that I can listen to all the way through without skipping even one song.
