What is Justice? I have never heard of this store. Is it usually located in malls? My DD is just starting to wear size 7's. It's amazing the differences in styles between 6x and 7! I'm not ready for her to be this big yet :sad1:

Justice is owned by Limited too but the clothes are a little cheaper (still expensive though). It was opened to compete with Old Navy. I personally think the clothing is more appropriate for the younger group. I approve of less than half of what is in LT but would allow DD7 to wear most of the clothes at Justice. Ours is in a stripmall.

Here's our list so far:

both kids (ds9 and dd10) will get laptops. Refurbrished, great employee discount! We figure they will need them for school work.

DS: MS Flight Simulator
Books: Ripleys Believe it or Not
Guiness World Book of Records

large tub of leggos
large tub of connects
leggo assembly boards (about 4)

some nintendo DS games, yet to be determined

Pajamas, robe, keepsake ornament for Christmas Eve

DD:

American Girl Kristen Doll with book and accessories
American girl outfits (whatever I win on Ebay!)
American girl pj's or nightgown, whatever I win on Ebay!
Set of Littlle House on the Prarie books
Set of Childrens Classics (bought used on Ebay!)
some nintendo DS games, to be determined

For stockings, each kid gets: $50 in Toy-r-us gift cards (got with AMEX miles)
small flashlights, dd gets a nail grooming kit, some lip gloss and nail polish, ds gets Harry Potter pen and notebook

Well, it seems so paltry compared to last year. My dh is laid off with no real prospects until the first of the year. I'm quite proud of how we're managing the Christmas expenses. Rather than put it on a credit card and have yet another debt, we've been paying cash. I've sold items on Ebay, sold clothes at consignment shops, cashed in our coin jug, had a garage sale, so far everything on the above list is paid for with the extra money I've raised, except for the laptops, which were bought through an employee purchase plan earlier this year and have been paid off.

Usually we spend about $2000 for Christmas presents, and go into cc debt. This year, my gift is knowing its all paid for!

Can you adopt me? I really need a laptop, and I could use some lip gloss. :goodvibes

Our DD isn't getting anything from Santa. She doesn't have a clue who he is. She thinks the tree is this thing that has a bunch of balls on it mommy and daddy won't let her throw.

We got her: crayons, pad of paper, 2 wooden puzzles (2.84 each at Wal-mart), bath toys, two new touchy feely board books, and stacking cups. I would really like to also get her some Diego (he's her boyfriend) big board books, but everything I see is Dora. I feel like I'm totally being cheap, but I'm saving it for when she actually wants stuff.

I think I am finished except for I haven't found DS9's bike yet.

DS11-
MP3 player and idog
small ramp and rail for skateboard
scooter
skateboard backpack
Nintendo DS game
jeans and a polo
sneakers
pj bottoms
colts hat
Monster House DVD

New offbrand track(was given to us)

Princess duplo blocks
Cars DVD
comforter
Thomas DVD
pjs
*The girls are also getting a TV for their room.

Just send me all the boxes from all of your large toys and my kids will be entertained till next year!!

I don't judge what people want to buy their kids for Christmas I've been known to go overboard :rolleyes1 . But how many things that your children got last year are still played with? Or can even remember what they got?

We all work hard for our own $$ and shouldn't be judged on how we spend it. For myself this year the list is small. We will be going to Disney in Jan but this is the rest of the list:

DD 6:

Gameboy Advance and 2 games on sale $99
books
moonsand (don't ask me what it is :confused3 )
One Disney princess doll (tradition to get one every year)
and stocking stuffers
gift certificate to Chuck E Cheese
Disney $$

DS 10:

2 Gamecube games
books
Magentix
Nutcracker (tradition to get one every year)
stocking stuffers
gift certificate to Chuck E Cheese
Disney $$

Please remember that there are alot of needy families out there and to give to good causes!! Now I want to go shopping again!! :)

I spend usually $1000 per child, but this year we are saving for our Disney trip in May so we are cutting it back to $600 per kid. Boy, it doesn't take long to spend $600 when your kids get a little older and want the more expensive items!

D13 is getting:

Kodak EasyShare Camera (got black friday for $98 at target!)
winter coat
p.j.'s
itunes card
2 shirts
make up
$50.00 Disney money
I still have $200 left to spend on her so not sure what the rest will be

DS9 is getting

Yankees Beanbag chair
Derek Jeter jersey
Baseball mitt, ball, and bat
PSP games
DS games
holder for his games
$50.00 Disney money
he only has $150 left so I am not sure how I will spend that

My husband and I are not going to buy for each other, we are going to take the kids and let them pick out a gift for us from each of them so we will each have two gifts to open. Good enough for me. I just want that Disney trip to get her FAST!

People who come on message boards and immediately post rude and inflammatory responses are called trolls, and there are always some of them lurking around, especially this time of year. If you are not one, then I suggest you start a thread about overindulged kids, and we'll have a lively conversation.[/QUOTE

:thumbsup2 Exactly what I was thinking. Don't let her bother you, because what she is saying is not even true. She probably deprives her kids. Loving the lists! Lots of spoiled rotten kids everywhere :rotfl2:

Your right and it isn't rude to say I am depriving my kids? I think that is the pot calling the kettle black. It is ok I guess if it comes from you and not a troll such as myself (I am a very pretty troll by the way).

I am trying to raise children who think of other people, who use their imaginitions and I don't need toys for them that do nothing for their minds and sit in the back of their closets until I give them to Goodwill. So if you want to raise two "spoiled brats" go right ahead (your words, not mine). You sound so proud. Buying your children gifts does not make you a better parent. And I have found that people who feel the need to buy their kids everything under the sun are overcompensating in some way. My kids have everything they need, especially time with me doing meaningful things (and this does not include shopping at TRU!).

Sorry if the truth hurts. For someone who didn't have "two nickles to rub together", your sure are making up for it now. Your kids will tear through their gifts and still want more. But hey, your kids and when they are teens you deal with it. I won't have to because my children are well aware of what true deprivation is. They don't understand greed like your kids will. Hey if you want to say such a rude thing (depriving my kids, you obviously have never seen suffering to make such a cruel comment) then I have every right to respond. Call me a troll all you want becasue it is easier than dealing with the truth.

By the way, how old are you? "Get a life", that is something my 11 year old would say (but she doesn't because she has better manners).

Tracy

kaysmommie, there's obviously something going on here that has to do with more than a list of Christmas gifts, so why don't we agree to stop responding unless we want to add to our own lists of gifts, or comment politely on someone else's?? I just don't think we are going to get anywhere by continuing to respond to this poster.

Kids can have an imagination and still own toys. Maybe the people that you feel are over-indulging their children make more money that you and percentage wise are spending the same amount, so technically they are spending the same.

Just because your children didn't play with their toys and let them sit in the back of their closets doesn't mean that another child will do the same thing. You are inflicting your personal experiences on everyone else and assume that the same thing will happen. That simply may not be the case.

It just seems to me that some ignorant comments were made. I know this might sound hard to believe but there are child out there who will open their gifts on Christmas morning and when the last one is open say thank you and play with what they have and not need more. Why is it not possible to have been given gifts, be thankful and not be a bratty kid? These kids do exist.

I guess that I am thankful that my children are capable of receiving nice gifts and still be thoughtful caring kids to everyone they come in contact with. I don't get why there are people out there who can't seem to comprehend that these children exist.

I doubt anyone would be able to point my child out as an over-indulged child. Buying gifts for our children is different than raising our children and I can distiguish the diference between the two. My child doesn't get everything they want, but they do get their share and appreciate what they get.

My DH and I were just talking about that last night.I had found my list of what the kids were getting last year so we looked through and only one thing I wish I had not bought.Pretty good when you have four kids.BTW,the present was the Star Station.
Also Off topic(for the OP)but on the topic of spoiling, etc. Our family is on a very strict budget all year but a little money is automatically taken out of every check for Christmas.Throughout the year I make a note of what they really want and I get as much as possible for my kids.Yes I spoil them once a year and I refuse to feel bad about that. This year we spent about three hundred each on the older three and one fifty on DD2.If I had more I would gladly spend more. :)

Great points, carone0318! :cheer2:

I can see that the other poster is very concerned about not overindulging her children. That's great. We all have things that we hope to teach our children through our actions. For me, I'm much more concerned about raising children who aren't judgmental about other people's choices, particularly when they know nothing about those people. ;)

I thought the whole point to this thread was to ask what others are giving their kids for Christmas. Let's get back to the point of the thread and if we want to debate whether or not our kids are overindulged or underprivledged, let's start a new thread and do it there. It's not fair of us to judge each other in what we are giving our kids for Christmas - to each his / her own. Now, on with the shopping lists!

Okay - here's our list from Santa only

DS10:
DS Lite
Digital Camera
New Baseball Bat
2 DS Games
PS2 - Madden '07 Hall of Fame Edition
Air Jordan's
Dart Tag Magstrike

DS6
PS2
Black Pearl Playset
Guitar Hero for PS2
2 PS2 Games
New Bike - has always had brother's old ones!
Dart Tag Magstrike
POTC for Game Boy

Plus stocking stuffers - I think I may order tickets for a Hornets basketball game and put one in each stocking.

Buy your kids all you want. I, personally, know that in the long run it is not plastic toys that will make my kids happy but an education.
What about battery toys ? I know my son just loved the battery operated Cadillac Escalade Santa brought him last year. To the point where it got used so much the tires went bald !
Christmas morning must be a blast at your house, "Oh look kids, Santa bought you can Education Plan.

My 7 year old son is getting the following:

From grandma:

Sleeping bag

From uncle:

Yoda backpack
Some kind of remote control toy that he'll LOVE, talk about for months, but that will actually be broken by the end of the week (this is what he always gets him, it's part of the tradition)

From godmother

Journal with a lock on it (the one specific thing he's requested)

From mom

Season long ski rental (he's getting a spring break ski trip for his birthday in March)
Wood (for woodworking which he loves)

From Santa

MP3 player/Ipod (refurbished?)
Some kind of speaker system for Ipod
Subscription to Audible.com for books on MP3
2 small lego star wars kits
Maybe some little action figures -- Ben 10???
Little things to fit in the stocking???
Some books
An orange long sleeved tie dye shirt if I can find one (my son has worn the same 2 beloved orange tie dyed shirts every day he can for the past 5 to 6 months -- now that it's too cold to wear them by himself I'd like to get him a bigger one)
Maybe an educational computer game or Leapster game of some kind

edited because he's only been wearing the shirts 5-6 months not 56 months. Also, to point out that since I haven't actually bought any of these things, the actual list will probably change and may (now that I'm looking at it and adding up the cost) may be a little shorter?

I guess I'm not getting adopted. I really wanted a laptop. :) Actually i'm secretly hoping DH gets me one. I'd rather him not spend the money, but I really hate DISing in the cold basement (where our office is).

For those of you with older DC's, how do you limit yourselves? Do you pick a money amount or an amount of gifts? We don't have a problem now since DD is so little and our house is 900 sq feet. There's just no room for toys. But we are moving and I know it'll be harder when DD is older.
