What's Santa Bringing Your Kids?

It is so much fun to hear what others are planning for thier kids' Christmas. You all seem to be having so much fun! My kids are both 2, so we are not getting them much this year:
A cozy coupe (got that idea from another post on this board)
A small Princess couch
Some weebles
A Little People set

I sure do look forward to the day when we can plan really fun presents for my girls! I think the OP's laptops seem like a great gift....fun and usefull. I could see doing that for my kids someday... we are a technology oriented family. I also love the American Girl Dolls, and Butterscotch the Pony sure is cute! And Legos!!!! Legos are the best! :)

I totally agree these kids are being given too much, no matter how much is being given to charity. I really don't feel Christmas is made better by phone book sized Christmas lists. But if people want to waste copius amounts of money on their kids, I say fine. If there are consequences, you'll be the ones to pay, not me. :teeth:
I also think those who jumped all over the poster who said that are being extremly reactionary. They posted their views on the topic, and everyone who post their list knows that it opens them up to criteque. Just like I know people may comment on my poor spelling anytime they disagree with me... I'm not asking for spelling corrections, but it's part of posting I've come to deal with.

Maybe some of these adults need to learn "If you have nothing nice to say then say nothing at all". No one should critique anyones list. We posted to get ideas from one another and alot of people have similar gifts for kids the same age. Who are you to say what is too much! The nerve :furious: . I posted my list for fun like alot of others.

I can't stay away from this thread!!!! This morning I was out wasting copious amounts of money on my children again, so I had to check back in. I'm loving reading everyone's lists!!!!

If it makes any of you feel better, DD18 is getting a trip to Japan for her Christmas/birthday present, and it cost almost $4000, so now you can say, "At least there's someone who spent WAY more than me!!!!!

Seriously, it certainly is easy to criticize other's choices, especially when children are young. I was very sure I knew the correct (and only) way to parent when my daughters were small. As I (and they) have aged, I have realized that there is usually room for more than my own opinion. Everyone does what is best for their family at the time, and it usually all works out.

OK, off to spend some more!!!!!!!

DS3
Game boy Micro and 5 games
Firefly cell phone
Razor bumper car
Golden Retriever puppy
Go Diego treehouse/jeep/backpack/playsets
Playmobil Fairytale Castle
Playmobil Helicopter
Playmobil pirate ship

Lots of board games
Garfield 2 Dvd
Disney Princess playset
Geotrax bridge

Peter pan computer game
Firefly cell phone
Playmobil train
Playmobil helicopter

Buy your kids all you want. I, personally, know that in the long run it is not plastic toys that will make my kids happy but an education. So, I choose to put the money I would have spend on toys that do nothing for their imagination in an account for college.

I have found that kids who get to much at an early age do not appreciate it and have nothing to look forward to. So spend away, it is your kids not mine.
You reap what you sow.

As far as the trip. I would love my son to go on trip to Japan. Actually, he has been asked but hasn't quite earned his share yet. When he does, our old neighbors (from Japan), who go about three times a year will take him. It will probably mean more to him if he pays for some of it. After all, he is 18 and works. Just like I make him pay for books. Sure, we can afford to buy his college books but he has to own his education in some way.

So, spoil away. I won't have to live with your kids when they are grown. In fact I probably won't be living with any kids since mine will be out supporting themselves since they realize things in life are not handed to them on a silver platter. My son bought his first car himself. Boy, does he take good care of that thing.

You can debat this all you want. Overindulged kids have a harder time in life when they are grown. My husband and I can afford to buy our kids anything they want. However, we understand that this is not in their best interest. My kids enjoy playing outside or with friends and don't really need to have the latest gadget. They are happy with a box. Take care. Got to go wrap gifts for St. Vincents.

OK, what the heck. I'll join in! I think I really am DONE now (except for small, CHEAP stocking stuffer items), so the list should be pretty accurate! For the record, I've spent WAY more than I planned to -- about $500 - $600 . . . We really try not to buy much for the girls outside of birthdays and Christmas except for the occasional book or puzzle, though, so I'm trying not to feel too guilty.

Gifts for DD4:
Princess Teddy Bear
First Act Drum Set
First Act first guitar
Pink and white Ariel dress-up dress (colors were very important!)
Kid tough PINK digital camera
Disney Princess Project and Draw
One Polly Pockets set
Bath dolls
2 outfits
Groovy Girl Princess doll

Gifts for DD2:
Ballerina Teddy Bear
Tinker Bell Hollow play set
Tinker Bell dress-up dress
2 Disney fairies for the play set
Bitty Baby doll and bassinet
Magnet game
Bath dolls
2 outfits
1 ballerina little girl doll (she spins around on a pedestal)
Groovy Girl Ballerina doll

Items for both of them:
Walkie-talkie style telephones
Bella Dancerella
Make-up tray with "little girl" make-up
Disney Princess Play Castle (haven't bought yet, going to look at it again)

Stockings will be the groovy girl dolls, some dress-up jewelry, chapsticks, candy, and a few other small items.

Oh, my, a hat trick - paying for college/having it paid for, buying teens a car/making them pay for it themselves, and overindulged kids who don't appreciate things later in life - you've just hit on all the hot button topics in one post, and you've only had 10 posts!!

I can never resist replying when someone gets holier than thou, although it never does anything but make my blood pressure go up. Sorry, everyone, for taking the bait and going off topic in the thread. Apparently my trolldar was not working very well....

I hope my DD has a wonderful time on her trip, which is a part of her college education that I've been saving for for a very long time, and that everyone is finding all the goodies they want for their own children while shopping!!!!

He pays for his books, I pay for his classes with the money I didn't spend on the 20 gifts he did not get for Christmas his past 18 years (and he didn't even miss them!). When did I say I paid for his car? Don't ever remember doing that. Read the fine print (a college education does wonders).

But my kids and I are pretty talented. But not as talented as some with trolldar abilities.

One of the biggest debates on the DIS parenting threads concerns parents who pay for their teen's first car vs. teens who pay for it themselves. I didn't say you paid for his car, as actually I had been able to read and understand from your post that he bought it himself. I believe you also said he took good care of it.

I am glad you were able to save for his education, as a college education does indeed do wonders. I use both of mine every day.

People who come on message boards and immediately post rude and inflammatory responses are called trolls, and there are always some of them lurking around, especially this time of year. If you are not one, then I suggest you start a thread about overindulged kids, and we'll have a lively conversation.

A four day disney cruise, 2 additional weeks in Florida with lots of great activities, and 200 bucks in spending money for her vacation.
That would be it for my kid.

What do you care what we buy our kids. My kids take care of their stuff BTW and earn allowances and save their own spending dollars too. none of us have to justify anything to you. I hate being snotty to people but you need to get a life!!

Gee, thanks!! Actually, I was a little riled up earlier, and I probably should apologize - I got pretty high up on my horse, too. Let's all be friends, shall we???

And it occurs to me that I never answered the OP's question, so:

DD18 - her interim trip to Japan (actually, this is technically a "college" expense, since we chose her college knowing we would want her to take advantage of a chance to go abroad if she got it, but I'm still making her count it as her big Christmas/birthday gift), a rolling duffle bag, a "fanny pack" (over her dead body, she says, but they ask students to have something to carry money in that can go inside her clothes) and a travel guide to Tokyo
second season of Grey's Anatomy
a PS2 microphone game (no real idea why she wants this, except that she and her sister are always singing along to the TV and radio - looks like I am in for a lot of floor shows over Christmas!!!)
probably some clothes that she will pick out and I will wrap and put under the tree
a KT Tunstall CD

DD13 - Designer Dreams
Dream Life
Nintendo DS and PS2 games
some art kits, probably some new books, and a mini camcorder of some kind

both girls are getting some makeup containers I found at the Container Store, and some new makeup

I don't care. But I have to say, I do find it wonderful that your children take good care of their things and earn thier own spending money. My kids did not do this at such a young age. Seriously, I whish I had started earlier.

Don't worry, I have a life.

DD (8) is getting a new bike and DD (22) and DS (19) will be getting around £30 cash or gift vouchers each :thumbsup2

Unfortunately we've had to cut back pretty drastically this year as DH's brain tumour hasn't been behaving itself recently meaning he hasn't been well enough to work much :sad2:

:thumbsup2 Exactly what I was thinking. Don't let her bother you, because what she is saying is not even true. She probably deprives her kids. Loving the lists! Lots of spoiled rotten kids everywhere :rotfl2:

So far DD6 is getting:

- The Cinderella's Castle playset from WDW.
- Ariel Styling Head
- Carriage with Eric & Ariel
- Some Disney princess 'Polly Pockets'
- Stocking will be full of Ariel stuff that I found at the Dollar Tree.

We're still looking for a High School Musical shirt and some other stuff. Not sure what, but I'd imagine that the Disney Store will be our first stop when we go shopping!

I don't know if anyone replied but Justice and Limited too have these shirts. The ss are on the clearance racks.

What is Justice? I have never heard of this store. Is it usually located in malls? My DD is just starting to wear size 7's. It's amazing the differences in styles between 6x and 7! I'm not ready for her to be this big yet :sad1:
