What's Santa Bringing Your Kids?

It is so much fun to hear what others are planning for thier kids' Christmas. You all seem to be having so much fun! My kids are both 2, so we are not getting them much this year:
A cozy coupe (got that idea from another post on this board)
A small Princess couch
Some weebles
A Little People set

I sure do look forward to the day when we can plan really fun presents for my girls! I think the OP's laptops seem like a great gift....fun and usefull. I could see doing that for my kids someday... we are a technology oriented family. I also love the American Girl Dolls, and Butterscotch the Pony sure is cute! And Legos!!!! Legos are the best!

I totally agree these kids are being given too much, no matter how much is being given to charity. I really don't feel Christmas is made better by phone book sized Christmas lists. But if people want to waste copius amounts of money on their kids, I say fine. If there are consequences, you'll be the ones to pay, not me.
I also think those who jumped all over the poster who said that are being extremly reactionary. They posted their views on the topic, and everyone who post their list knows that it opens them up to criteque. Just like I know people may comment on my poor spelling anytime they disagree with me... I'm not asking for spelling corrections, but it's part of posting I've come to deal with.

Maybe some of these adults need to learn "If you have nothing nice to say then say nothing at all". No one should critique anyones list. We posted to get ideas from one another and alot of people have similar gifts for kids the same age. Who are you to say what is too much! The nerve . I posted my list for fun like alot of others.

If it makes any of you feel better, DD18 is getting a trip to Japan for her Christmas/birthday present, and it cost almost $4000, so now you can say, "At least there's someone who spent WAY more than me!!!!!

Seriously, it certainly is easy to criticize other's choices, especially when children are young. I was very sure I knew the correct (and only) way to parent when my daughters were small. As I (and they) have aged, I have realized that there is usually room for more than my own opinion. Everyone does what is best for their family at the time, and it usually all works out.

I have found that kids who get to much at an early age do not appreciate it and have nothing to look forward to. So spend away, it is your kids not mine.
You reap what you sow.

As far as the trip. I would love my son to go on trip to Japan. Actually, he has been asked but hasn't quite earned his share yet. When he does, our old neighbors (from Japan), who go about three times a year will take him. It will probably mean more to him if he pays for some of it. After all, he is 18 and works. Just like I make him pay for books. Sure, we can afford to buy his college books but he has to own his education in some way.

So, spoil away. I won't have to live with your kids when they are grown. In fact I probably won't be living with any kids since mine will be out supporting themselves since they realize things in life are not handed to them on a silver platter. My son bought his first car himself. Boy, does he take good care of that thing.

You can debat this all you want. Overindulged kids have a harder time in life when they are grown. My husband and I can afford to buy our kids anything they want. However, we understand that this is not in their best interest. My kids enjoy playing outside or with friends and don't really need to have the latest gadget. They are happy with a box. Take care. Got to go wrap gifts for St. Vincents.

OK, what the heck. I'll join in! I think I really am DONE now (except for small, CHEAP stocking stuffer items), so the list should be pretty accurate! For the record, I've spent WAY more than I planned to -- about $500 - $600 . . . We really try not to buy much for the girls outside of birthdays and Christmas except for the occasional book or puzzle, though, so I'm trying not to feel too guilty.

One of the biggest debates on the DIS parenting threads concerns parents who pay for their teen's first car vs. teens who pay for it themselves. I didn't say you paid for his car, as actually I had been able to read and understand from your post that he bought it himself. I believe you also said he took good care of it.

I am glad you were able to save for his education, as a college education does indeed do wonders. I use both of mine every day.

People who come on message boards and immediately post rude and inflammatory responses are called trolls, and there are always some of them lurking around, especially this time of year. If you are not one, then I suggest you start a thread about overindulged kids, and we'll have a lively conversation.

DD18 - her interim trip to Japan (actually, this is technically a "college" expense, since we chose her college knowing we would want her to take advantage of a chance to go abroad if she got it, but I'm still making her count it as her big Christmas/birthday gift), a rolling duffle bag, a "fanny pack" (over her dead body, she says, but they ask students to have something to carry money in that can go inside her clothes) and a travel guide to Tokyo

So far DD6 is getting:

- The Cinderella's Castle playset from WDW.
- Ariel Styling Head
- Carriage with Eric & Ariel
- Some Disney princess 'Polly Pockets'
- Stocking will be full of Ariel stuff that I found at the Dollar Tree.

We're still looking for a High School Musical shirt and some other stuff. Not sure what, but I'd imagine that the Disney Store will be our first stop when we go shopping!

What is Justice? I have never heard of this store. Is it usually located in malls? My DD is just starting to wear size 7's. It's amazing the differences in styles between 6x and 7! I'm not ready for her to be this big yet
