What's Santa Bringing Your Kids?

Here's our list so far:

both kids (ds9 and dd10) will get laptops. Refurbrished, great employee discount! We figure they will need them for school work.

DS: MS Flight Simulator
Books: Ripleys Believe it or Not
Guiness World Book of Records

large tub of leggos
large tub of connects
leggo assembly boards (about 4)

some nintendo DS games, yet to be determined

Pajamas, robe, keepsake ornament for Christmas Eve

DD:

American Girl Kristen Doll with book and accessories
American girl outfits (whatever I win on Ebay!)
American girl pj's or nightgown, whatever I win on Ebay!
Set of Littlle House on the Prarie books
Set of Childrens Classics (bought used on Ebay!)
some nintendo DS games, to be determined

For stockings, each kid gets: $50 in Toy-r-us gift cards (got with AMEX miles)
small flashlights, dd gets a nail grooming kit, some lip gloss and nail polish, ds gets Harry Potter pen and notebook

Well, it seems so paltry compared to last year. My dh is laid off with no real prospects until the first of the year. I'm quite proud of how we're managing the Christmas expenses. Rather than put it on a credit card and have yet another debt, we've been paying cash. I've sold items on Ebay, sold clothes at consignment shops, cashed in our coin jug, had a garage sale, so far everything on the above list is paid for with the extra money I've raised, except for the laptops, which were bought through an employee purchase plan earlier this year and have been paid off.

Usually we spend about $2000 for Christmas presents, and go into cc debt. This year, my gift is knowing its all paid for!

Good for you! Sounds like it will be a Merry Christmas for you all! And good luck to your DH...mine is out of work as well and has been since about February so I feel your pain!!

Merry Christmas!

tchrxx -- I have seen High School Musical t-shirts at Macy's in the children's department (if there is one near you).

Thank you so much! We (my DH, actually!) bought one at the Disney store today, but I don't love it. It's just ok. I'll try to remember this next time we go to OKC though, b/c I would like a different one. We did finish up all of DD's shopping though. And, like I figured, most of it was from the Disney store! It doesn't hurt any that most of it is stuff that I want to play with too!

I think that some of the posters here could give half the toys they bought to charity and their kids would still be happy as clams and over indulged on Christmas morning. A little overboard :sad2: some of you, don't you think?

I agree that we need to also think of others during Christmas, not just our own families. However, whose to say that many of the PP's are not also buying for charity? I know in our case that we buy not only for our DD, but we also allow her to choose an angel from the Angel Tree and help us make purchases for that child. Also, like you said in another posting...."Families do different things. Doesn't mean it is wrong because it it different."

Well, you got me there!

I have found with my own too much means being overwhelmed. If you give them less, they appreciate what they have. My kids anyway.

But please, what four year old needs 25 gifts to open? Really. This is overkill.

I work with underprivledged kids. They are thrilled to get a new book.

My kids were taught from an early age to help the less fortunate all year. They are scouts and work hard to make sure others have something to open on christmas morning.

But, again, different families, different priorities.

Tracy

Why are we judging what others are buying? This thread does not ask did I buy my children too much. Everyone should be able to participate without being judged. Especially when we are talking about Christmas. I cannot buy AG items for my daughter but I don't care if you do. I just think that everyone is different and that is OK. :sunny:

I think this is a little harsh. The thread is asking "what is santa bringing", not asking for others to critique their lists.

Just because someone is indulging their children at Christmas doesnt also mean that they arent being generous with charitable causes during the season. One doesnt negate the other. In fact, among my friends I have found that those who are really generous tend to be really generous with everyone, including those they are helping out during the holidays, not just their own kiddos.

I also agree that something different works for every family. With all my kiddos, posting my kids lists would be a bit much work, but I really LOVE reading what others have gotten theirs!

I love reading what other people get their kids...it gives me GREAT ideas when I need a gift for a specific age/gender. It's hard to know the "in" things to get when you are not around that specific age group. I could do without people on their high horses judging people for something that really isn't any of their business to be judging. If you have so much time and energy to be on a message board critizing people for what they give their kids for Christmas maybe you redirect that energy into volunteering for a good cause instead.

Sorry to rant but people like that REALLY grate my nerves.

I'm off to go wrap TONS of presents for my 9 month old that won't even remember this Christmas!!!

If you do not mind me asking, where did you find this globe and how much did you pay. I am not finding it in any stores (Target, Toysrus) and online it is $99. Of course I tried Kohls.com at 1:30 Black friday morning and they were sold out already.

Any help would be appreciated.

for your info I teach my kids to give tocharity. We donated food for Thanksgiving for the needy and we buy toys for tots every year when we can afford too. This is a big christmas for my kids this year and trust me they will have fun. I don't buy them a ton of stuff every time we go to the store like other kids. When we go to Dsiney they get one or two things for the whole week. I think giving to charity is important but I'm not wealthy or anything, in fact far from it. DH and I only buy one gift for each other from the kids and it's usually something small or something we need. christmas in our house is all about the kids. I don't think it's your business if anyone buys there kids lots of gifts for Christmas.
BTW when DD was 10 months she got a set of blocks and babydoll from me and DH and that all. We had not 2 nickels to rub together. But guess what thats not the case anymore. To each his own.

I have to stop, because I keep adding things! Here is my list:

DS7:

Drum set ( a real one, since he now takes drum lessons)
Hot wheels Car Crashers
Assorted New Orleans Saints merchandise (he is a fanatic!!)
Disney Mix Sticks
Deal or No Deal game
Car hauler (hot wheels)
LSU hoodie
Flat ball
Big Kick football figure
Star Wars computer Math game
Suite Life of Zack & Cody GBA game
Gameboy accessories pack
Cars DVD
Babe DVDs
Scooby Doo GBA
Disney Power Rangers Robe with name

DD3:

Barbie Dream House w/ 2 Barbies and 1 Ken
Bella Dancerella
Easy Bake Oven
2 Big dolls (Teen trends)
Shimmering Ariel
Dress Up Trunk
Dora Cash Register
Barbie 12 Dancing Princesses doll w/ matching outfit for DD
Dora Computer game
Ballet bag embroidered w/ name
Barbie DVD
2 Disney store nightgowns
Disney Ariel robe with name

I can't remember all the specifics, but our DDs are getting about 8 or 9 things each this year. Last year it was five. Things like:
My little pony nightgown
Light up Barbie (bought on clearance)
Some shirts
My Little Pony
Horse play set
Cars coloring book
Build A Bear clothes

Usually $5-10 items. So maybe $60 per kid. We are in better circumstances than ever this year and I am trying not to "expand" into them. So far so good.

We are not giving them a gift from "us" since we are going to WDW. Usually the gift from us is a board game to share. We can slack and depend on DH's side to spoil them! Everyone could use a couple of childless doting aunts!

I totally agree these kids are being given too much, no matter how much is being given to charity. I really don't feel Christmas is made better by phone book sized Christmas lists. But if people want to waste copius amounts of money on their kids, I say fine. If there are consequences, you'll be the ones to pay, not me. :teeth:
I also think those who jumped all over the poster who said that are being extremly reactionary. They posted their views on the topic, and everyone who post their list knows that it opens them up to criteque. Just like I know people may comment on my poor spelling anytime they disagree with me... I'm not asking for spelling corrections, but it's part of posting I've come to deal with.

these are just their Santa gifts:
DS8 is getting:
a new pool cue
bike ramp set
Aladdin DVD
Gamecube game
spygear

DD5 is getting:
Easel
large box of art supplies
My Little Pony Castle
Little Mermaid DVD
Leappad game

DS1 1/2 is getting:
race car bed
Baby Leappad
2 Leappad games
blocks
"hammer set"

they are also getting the assorted stocking stuffers: books, candy, toothbrushes, barbie clothes, toy cars, lip gloss, I Spy puzzle etc...

Christmas Eve we open our family gifts and between my parents and DH's parents, we only need to give our kids one item... for DS8 its a video collection of one of his favorite web characters (Strongbad), for DD5 Barbie House and DS1 1/2 TMX Elmo (yes, we already have it!)

I can't wait for Christmas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not a lot!

DS 5
Cars race track
books
cars umbrella

DS 3
story reader
books
cars umbrella

for both of them
thomas tracks. my dh is building a track system for their train table. he is going to glue it down on an alternate board that we can just place in the table when they want. that way, their mother who is creatively challenged doesn't have to figure out a whole system every time they want to play. but if they want to try themselves, they can and we are not ruining the entire table

From mommy and daddy:
tickets to disney on ice for all of us
another trip to disney in May with (hopefully) dvc points (we are trying to buy resale and waiting for the perfect points)
we are finishing half of the basement for a playroom for them

My dd (almost 2) will be getting:

From Santa

Play kitchen, fully stocked with food, pots and pans and dishes.

From Mommy and Daddy

Cinderella Castle Playset
Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Playset and 2 extra sets
Doll crib and highchair
My little Pony sweet steps pony
books

For her stocking

Cars dvd
Little mermaid dvd
Curious George dvd
Mickey mouse clubhouse cd
mickey mouse clubhouse bath soap
AG bitty baby outfit

I love hearing what everyone is getting!
I can't wait to see dd's face on Christmas morning! :goodvibes
