In a couple of years I'd love to take the kids to Europe and cruising would we a wonderful alternative to packing up and driving from city to city. Are there cruises out there for families that do, say, Italy or Scotland and aren't horribly expensive? I mean to fly overseas and then work from there.

My mom and I did a Greek Isle cruise with Royal Olympic. It was very affordable but NOT like a Disney Cruise. I enjoyed it, but if you want to be pampered and have non-stop meals it might not be a good choice. It was a great way to see a lot of stuff in a hurry!

Just priced an RCCL cruise, Barcelona to South of France, Italy, Malta then back to Spain, 7 days for my DS13 and I and it was $5300, including round trip airfare from San Francisco. I thought this was very reasonable for July, considering the airfare alone to Europe can be $2000 in summer. This was a room with a verandah. I'm like you...I'd rather unpack once and see a different port every day than travel via car or bus. They also have Northern Europe itineraries that include Scotland. Hope that helps.
