I think they're snapshots of specific times/moods/headspaces we've been in over the past 11 years, and think we view them the same way you might look at an old photo of yourself (they might spark a memory, make you smile {or cringe.}) I have actually been thinking a lot about this lately: the thing that is crazy about records is that to your listeners is there is little to no account for the time between records and the growth or experiences that you have during that time, which is why I think our progression might sound drastic at times...especially when you look at it in broad strokes, like TAITA to Beggars (IOS to Vheissu, etc.) Look at a photo of yourself from 5 years ago, and think about how much has happened since then, how much you've learned, how much you've changed. It's crazy. Especially when you're dealing with an age range of 18-34 (which is what we're dealing with here.) For some reason with bands, there seems to be an inability to understand the things that happen during the gaps between records, and look at them like they were photos taken a week apart.
