Whats not to be missed at Disneyland.

We are planning a trip to DL this Dec. And from never having been their what are not be be missed attractions/shows??? What tips for the park would be helpful. What special x-mas events arent to bre missed and any other info that you could offer about DL would be greatly apperciated. We are a family of 5 with 3 kids who are 16, 9 and 5. Im sure the experts out their have info to share!!!

hmmm... well, 'it's a small world' at Disneyland is whole different animal from the one at WDW. Even if you can't bear it at WDW, you must not miss it at Disneyland at Christmas. The entire inside is redone to a Christmas theme, and Christmas music is intersperced with the Small World theme song. It is spectacular. It will spoil you.

The resorts are nicely decorated, as are the restaurants and shops. Lots of locals go there to shop for Christmas -- it feels Christmasy there, more so than WDW. Nighttime on Main Street is beautiful.

I missed Disneyland this Christmas (was held captive by inlaws ) but they did a Nightmare Before Christmas theme at Haunted Mansion that I heard was really good. There are carolers, Christmas shows, lots of decorations. DCA had a Luminaria parade -perhaps someone can describe that for us.

Not to be missed at Disneyland? I won't go for the obvious biggies. If you are a dark ride fan you can't miss Alice in Wonderland. Pinnochio is really good too. Mr Toad is okay until the last scene which is real good. Storybookland Canal Boats are nice at twighlight. Make sure there is still enough light to see everything. If you have time, see the original Tiki Room.
Lunch at the Blue Bayou is a good bet. Lunch or dinner at the Plaza Inn is real nice.

Are the Christmas decorations/events up and running at Thanksgiving time? We will be there the week OF Thanksgiving.... and I think Nightmare before Christmas really would be a hit with my kids!

Christmas decorations start going up in early November.

I echo the comment on Blue Bayou for lunch. The atmosphere of being by the POTC boats is very nice.

Speaking of POTC, I'd say it is better at DL, as is It's a Small World.

The Matterhorn is a "shouldn't miss" either. I prefer it at night, but maybe that's just me.

The Autopia cars are different at DL.

Mr. Toad is still around.

Indy, of course.

And if you like the original Tiki room, or never saw the original, its definitely worth checking out.

Also, Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln.

Fantasmic is a somewhat different experience at DL (scheduled to return Summer '02).

Fantasyland at Disneyland is an attraction in itself - just a fun, visual feast, unlike Fantasyland at WDW which is just a bunch of facades. Don't miss the Casey Junior Circus Train and Storybook Canal Boats. Of course, Alice in Wonderland isn't at WDW. The Teacups are outside, not inside, under a canopy of trees. The difference between DL and WDW is most striking in Fantasyland - you will see what I mean when you go.

december is the best! we have been to DL 2x and we went both times in december
well im 15 and my bro is 9 and this is what we think-
IASW-its awesome at cmas!
Matterhorn-its realyl lots of fun
all of Fantasyland-pincchio and alice are great!
PoTC-its one of the best!
HM-espically since its the Nightmare b4 cmas!
space-great ride..alot faster than wdw!
believe in holiday magic-very nice show and i LOVE the music!
indiana jones-good ride
one of our favorite things to do is go to the mian street cinema and watch Steamboat Willie!
great moments with mr.lincoln...a very good show! i love the new show!
thats really all i think of off the top of my head
if you have time i would recommend doing the holiday tour(if they haev it this comnig year)...you get to watch the parade from a speical viewing area and ride HM and IASW
