What's more important

I told my kids (DD's 13, 10, 10) that we're doing a split stay on our next trip, 4 nights at mod and 3 nights deluxe. I told them each to pick one mod and one deluxe and we'll do a vote.

Here's our dilemma: pools & beds! The kids like the pool at the Boardwalk because of the slide, but they love AKL with a Savannah room and bunk beds.

This is our second trip and we usually like to take one day and just hang out at the resort. I don't have a problem with either, I want them to be happy. So what's more important to your kids? The room or the pool? What are the chances we're going to see any animals at AKL with a savannah view room? The BW looks fun, but will the kids enjoy it? Or am I comparing apples to oranges?

Any input is appreciated! Thanks.

My kids like pools much more than the rooms. We are not in the room all that much and they don't really care as long as there is a tv and bed. From the savannah room you will see animals. Every morning they will be out there.

I think for hanging at the resort day, the pool is far more important than the room. When we have our resort day, we're still not in the room a heck of a lot, but we do spend the vast majority of the day at the pool.

We take my grandson to WDW often. He is now 14 and pretty much a veteran. He's stay at most of the resorts and between BW and AKL, he would choose BW hands down. The pool gets old fast for him, but he loves the community center at BW. He enjoys spending time out on the boardwalk in the evenings watching the entertainers do magic tricks and stunts. He dislikes both the arcades at BW and AKL equally. And at the BW we like the different dining options that are available between all of the resorts there. As for the AKL, the view is nice, the last time no one was impressed with the animals by day 2. Their pool is nice too with the zero entry, but the clown slide is better at the BW. Mara is a nice quick service option too at the AKL. BW is lacking for quick service options. Of course nothing beats being able to walk to MGM and EPCOT from BW. Hope you can use some of the suggestions.

Our resort day never involves us being in the room for long, we like to rent the bikes and check everything out and usually hang by the pool. The BW looks so alive and fun. I can't imagine my twins getting sick of the animals at AKL, but I don't know how they'd feel about the food (extremely picky eaters).

How far is the walk to Epcot and MGM? What's the alternative to walking?

Thanks for the advice!

like n2mm, my kids felt that AKL didn't have enough to do once they watched the animals from the balcony a few times.
i would suggest staying at the BW (it's actually difficult to run out of things to do there:banana: ), & book dinner at boma (delicious), giving yourselves a few hours to tour the resort ~ it really is stunning!

btw, the BC has one of the best resort arcades (we love pinball challenges) :thumbsup2

With BW you have the option of walking to both Epcot and DHS...about 8 mins to Epcot and under 20 to DHS. Or, you can take the boat. You have access to minigolf, across the street from the Dolphin..about a 10 min walk from BW. The Community Hall is a ton of fun for kids, right next to a quiet pool. You can rent surrey bikes at BW. The Luna Park pool is a lot of fun. There is a lack of quick food at BW though.
With AKL you do get the animals. And there are rooms with bunk beds. But, it's a bus ride everywhere. That can get old. There is a quick serve area (at least I think there is) at AKL. The rooms may be a tad smaller than the rooms at BW, but not absolutely sure.
I would go with BW, but your family has to decide what works best for them.

After staying at BWV in December I can tell you that my 2kids DS10, DD14 were both disappointed in the Clown Pool. It looks neat, but was pretty boring in their opinion and the pool itself is not as big as some of the other pools. Best pool on property IMHO is Stormalong Bay at BC. From what I've seen, 2nd best is AKL.

As far as beds, tired kids are grumpy miserable kids. So if yours will sleep better in their own beds (bunk beds) I would lean that way.

Walking to Epcot from BW or BC is very easy, 5 minute walk to the International Gateway. The other transportation choice is the Friendships, but it's faster to walk :goodvibes

We've done BWI and AKL. The pool at AKL is nothing to write home about. I'd go w/BWI

Thanks everyone for your input, I think I'm leaning towards BWI. AKL has the safari ride where they can see the animals up close and though I'm sure there's nothing like waking up with a giraffe in your window, it just looks like there's more that BW has to offer the kids.

I think if you are looking for a good pool chose the Beach or Yacht Club. The area is basically the same but you get a better pool than the BWI..which frankly to me is more of a business or adult area. Not a big fan of the pool either..just looks like a clown head "throwing up" people.:crazy2: Guess you can tell I'm not a fan. The whole "clown" theme freaks me out. You can easily walk into Epcot, to the World Showcase entrance, and take the water launch to MGM. I would "visit" the Boardwalk area, but not choose it because of it's pool, it's not really much..just my opinion.
