What's more American than Disney?!We Brave the 4th of July! TR LINK pg. 55!!!!!!!

3 sleeps to go!

Weather forecast looks good.. not too hot, like you said! :goodvibes

Love the 'thank you' envelope!
I made similar ones for our Magical Express drivers, mousekeeping & fireworks cruise captain last year - everyone seemed to really like them! :thumbsup2

That's so cool!!!! I love steamboat Mickey on there!

Not too much longer - yahoo!

And here's a little dance for the job :banana::banana:

I'm a Buffy rerun gal myself... Adam - blah and kinda gross, Glory - very silly and more appropriate but c'mon..., Angel - piece of heaven , Spike - hilarious, Dawn - sister, WHAT???, I love the campiness of it all though!

Hahah yes! I just had to put steamboat willie on there! Right now I'm packing my carry-on and toiletry bags and watching Buffy still!

Oooo those temps aren't bad at all. I will never forget when the heat index during my trip a few years ago was like 120 or something ridiculous like that. I would definitely take a cool, comfortable 86 over that.;)

But, inevitably, by the end of July the temps will probably be back up into the upper 90s. :rotfl:

And that thank you note is so cute!!!

No, not bad at all! 120 heat index sounds terrible!!!

Ahhhh! 3 sleeps!!! I didn't think of it like that! Wow, that makes it seem soooo close!

Yeah, I have to say when they brought Dawn I was like.....what? Give me a break. But I got used to her.

LOVE the envelope!

I will probably be done with the entire Buffy series when you come back, fyi :P

At the rate I'm going, I might finish the series before I leave!! Hahah...watching "The Body" right now....sooo sad! :sad1:

Oh I'm soooo glad you are enjoying the PTR! It's been kind of boring so I think reading it all in one swoop is probably the way to go!

I haven't officially decided on the ears yet. Our first stop is DTD for some lunch so I'm thinking I'll check at the WOD and get them there. I like to imagine things that don't exist so I have convinced myself that I will be able to find the perfect patriotic ears/headband...

Please read my honeymoon TR! I had those bride ears on nonstop!

I really am so glad you joined..I noticed you on MarieTheCat's PTR.....is your username a reference to Garfield?

LOL, your PTR is NOT boring, it's so funny! I haven't gotten a chance to read anymore yet, hopefully tonight I'll get caught up!

There might be patriotic ears when you go to DTD, you never know! I didn't know the red Christmas ears I got existed until I went last November, which is why I'm hoping for a new color this year! :cool1:

My name is kind of in reference to Garfield...but not really! To make a long story short, my ex boyfriend from a looooong time ago had like, 5 himalayan cats and one was named Nermel and I was obsessed with her and she was named after the cat in Garfield. Then when I got an email address, I couldn't think of what to use for it so I just used Nermel9. :confused3 Whenever I have to sign up for something, that's my name if I can't think of a good one! I wish I thought of something Disney-ish for the DIS but I just didn't bother! Now I'm stuck with it! :rotfl:

I will definitely read your honeymoon TR, I LOVE those bride ears! :lovestruc I have them hanging on my mirror and every once in a while I'll get so sad since I can never wear them again!

I love that envelope you made, btw, how did you do that? :woohoo:

I'm sure there's an easier way but I actually did it in 2 different documents because I couldn't figure out how to put the words next to the picture. I just made it landscape and put it on the bottom of the document and ran a piece of paper through a few times and held it against the envelope to make sure it's in the right spot. :thumbsup2

Ugh I'm so frustrated! So I did all work in advance for this new course that just started yesterday for my masters. I did the first week's paper (which is due on Sun.) and this week and next week's discussion prompts. So all I have to do in WDW is log in to submit my paper, respond to some other people's posts and submit next week's post. I was aaaalllll set!

Now the professor is saying that use of first person should be avoided in the first paper...which I totally understand, in general (we never had to do that before but if that's what she wants...) except it makes NO sense for this paper because we had to choose an object and measure it two different ways, describing what we did, why we chose to measure in certain ways, etc. etc....how on EARTH are we supposed to describe all of that WITHOUT first person? My whole paper was written like a narrative! Now I have to go back and redo the whole freaking thing! Ahhhhh!!!

Does she not know I need to pack right now! :rotfl:

Maybe you can go back in and change me or I to "The writer" or something..I agree that is very strange

Oh no, she specifically said that using "the author" or "the writer" is not a way out of using first person.

:scared1: OMG what a mean professor.. does she not know it's two days before WDW for you?!

It sounds like you've been very organised though with your papers so I'm sure you'll be okay.... just keep thinking about that magical place... you'll be there real soon! :wizard:

x

Ugh very frustrating! Especially when you thought you had everything taken care of.

Maybe instead of saying I decided to use this method because....
say Such and such method is beneficial because...

Or something along those lines?

One must not despair! A trip to Walt Disney World is on the horizon. Since sleep is probably prevented due to much excitement, one should simply play the professor's game!

:lmao:

Obviously, she does not respect the process of preparing for a WDW vacation!!

Yeah I know what you mean and I understand how to change it but it just doesn't make sense for this paper. I really think she did not look at the assignment before making this rule. I fixed my opening and closing paragraphs to have no first person but the 3 paragraphs of the body are literally describing the activity it asked me to perform and describe. How can you describe the process you took without using first person? It doesn't make any sense to me!

I'm going to post more info....

Here were the instructions, word for word:

From the list below, choose an object to measure and think about all the different attributes of the object that you could measure.

*a filled coffee mug
*a bicycle
(etc....)

Next, choose two attributes of that object and measure them.

Write a brief description of the object you measured and then list all of its measurable attributes. Think about each attribute and the considerations you made when deciding which to actually measure. Explain why you chose one attribute to measure and not another. Describe any obstacles you encountered while measuring and how these obstacles could be avoided in the future.

I mean seriously! The directions practically say to write in the first person! NOT using first person is next to impossible...it would sound completely ridiculous if I try to describe something I did in my kitchen without using first person....

Here is my middle paragraph of the body. Now tell me...how do I write that without using first person????

I chose height over circumference because I do not own a tape measure and I knew I would need that to go around the mug to obtain a more accurate measurement than a rigid ruler. Having a ruler on hand, I knew I would easily be able to use that to measure height. Before using the ruler to measure, I held the mug in my hand and informally measured the height using a nonstandard unit, my hand. I could hold the mug with my thumb across the bottom and the rest of my hand just reached the top. I used that information to estimate that the height was about 4 inches. “Estimation provides intrinsic motivation to measurement activities,” (Van de Walle, Karp & Bay-Williams, 2010, p. 373). I was anxious to check my guess. So, with my estimation in mind, I then used the ruler to measure the height. I determined that the mug was exactly 4 5/8 inches from bottom to top.

Ugh I hate when professors pull stuff like that. It's like, why not make that clear when you first assign the paper? That would have been much more helpful. :confused3

Anyway, I hope it doesn't take you too long to fix. And even though it's frustrating, at least you'll be in WDW REALLY SOON!!!!

And this is just making me even more thankful that I'm not taking any summer classes.

Thanks for the support!

See the problem is, the assignments are created by the university and are the same for each course no matter who the instructor is. My guess is that she has her stricty strict rules and wants to enforce them without having read what the first assignment even is....

I think some professors (as well as other human beings) go on power trips sometimes.

Yeah, I feel like now that I sort of challenged her, she going to be even more of a pain about it...

Okay...here's what I came up with very quickly! But I think something along these lines would be okay?

Measurements were performed using height rather then circumference since there was no tape measurers available. It would be very simple to obtain the height measurement using a ruler. But before using the ruler, an informal measurement could be obtained by using a hand as a nonstandard unit. By holding the mug in hand a good estimate could be figured by placing the thumb along the bottom and the rest of the hand pointing to the top of the mug. The hand used gave an estimate of 4 inches. “Estimation provides intrinsic motivation to measurement activities,” (Van de Walle, Karp & Bay-Williams, 2010, p. 373). This guess was then checked using a ruler to measure the height. The mug was determined to be exactly 4 5/8 inches from bottom to top.
