What's Missing at DVC?

I am planning my first DVC trip (:woohoo:so excited!) and am wondering what's missing from the DVC units. For example, since garbage is only picked up on the 4th day should I bring a couple of extra garbage bags just in case? Is there a place for me to dump the trash rather than wait for the T&T service?

Or how about those odds and ends like coffee filters (cone or flat shape?), laundry detergent, aluminum foil, zip lock bags, etc? I would hate to show up and then realize I forgot something and need to pay out the nose for it.

What do you make sure that you bring with you on your DVC trips? Thanks so much!

Congrats on your first trip :)
There are extra garbage bags stored in the garbage can...we usually wait until one bag is almost full then drop it off in the trash room on our way out for the day.....you can ask the cm at check in where the nearest trash room will be

As far as extras....I think the coffee filters needed are round....DVC does not provide aluminum foil plastic wrap or baggies...we usually bring our own?....they provide one small box of laundry detergent...good for one load so we bring that as well
Enjoy your trip !!

I am missing from DVC. But I will be back soon.

Sorry to get OT, but that was teh first thing I thought of.

If you are planning to cook, I'd bring the basic cooking essentials like salt & cooking oil.

We always bring ziplock bags with us, but the kitchens have tupperware containers too.

If you are in a 1-bedroom or larger unit, there will be one (maybe two) single use box of laundry detergent. The coffee makers are full sized (10-12) cup Mr Coffee brand brewers that take the basket (flat bottom) style of filters.

From the member website:
Pay As You Play
With Pay As You Play service, you'll be provided with the following amenities free of charge at the start of your stay. After that, you may purchase more for the following fees:
  • Toiletries Package, $5.00 - 1 facial soap, 1 bath soap, 1 shampoo, 1 conditioner, 1 shower gel
  • Coffee Package, $3.00 - 1 package of coffee, 8 sugars, 8 creamers, 8 artificial sweeteners
  • Towel Package, $6.00 - 4 bath towels, 2 hand towels, 4 washcloths, 1 bath mat
  • Laundry Detergent (only in One-, Two-, and Three-bedroom Vacation Homes), $1.00 - 1 box

The above items will be replaced/replenished on Trash & Towel and Full Cleaning Days.

Definitely bring your own coffee and filters. We always bring our own shampoo and conditioner because they bottles they give are small and we never like hotel shampoo/conditioner anyway. They will give you extra dishwasher soap if you request it for no charge but they do charge $1 per box for washing machine detergent (beyond the one that comes with the room). I normally collect free samples of laundry detergent in the mail and bring those, or stop by walmart before we leave and stick a few in our suitcase.

If you bring laundry soap make sure it's clearly marked in your luggage. Drugs are hidden in powder detergent so TSA might search your bags. I usually measure out a single load into a baggie and put a dryer sheet in with it. I pack several of those into a gallon-size ziploc bag. I cut out the front of the detergent box and put it in the ziploc to show what it is. The dryer sheets are also a good clue.

The coffee mugs in the room are too small for us. We bring larger mugs. I also bring to-go coffee cups so I can take coffee with me to the parks.

I bring a cannister of lysol wipes and wipe down everything in the room when we get there--door handles, light switches--anything that usually wouldn't get cleaned. I'm not a germ phobe but we've caught enough stomach bugs in disney to be a little cautious now.

There is also only glassware in the room. If you have kids of a certain age you might want to bring a couple of plastic cups. (you know, when they're too old for sippy cups but young enough to spill/break the glasses)

The king beds only have a flat sheet on the bottom. We find it annoying to have the sheet slipping around so we bring a bright-colored fitted sheet.

I hope this is more of an urban legend as TSA people are just security screeners. They aren't law enforcment or customs agents. They should only be 100% focused on things that affect the security of the aircraft, nothing more.

It's not an urban legend. Laundry soap is one of the scents that dogs are trained to sniff out (coffee too). TSA may not be the one to catch the scent, but at many airports (esp. smaller ones) the bag will be given to TSA to search because that's the quickest resolution. It happens a lot. You get a nice note from TSA in your bag to let you know they pawed through your stuff.

We have a medium sized rolling suitcase that we call "the bindle". This is where we put everything that we need for our trips to any DVC resort. Coffee, filters, zip-locks, detergent, dryer sheets, snacks, etc. It's like our own personal Owner's Locker and we don't look like the Beverly Hillbillies toting that stuff up to the room. We drive so this works for us. Not sure what we would do if we had to fly. Probably spring for that OL. :)

Congrats on your first trip!

I cook in our villa so I bring a pizza cutter. I've never been fond of cutting pizza with a knife. I also bring extra baggies, powder laundry detergent and dishwasher tablets, my own tea bags and coffee, plus salt & pepper.

They do provide enough dish soap for the sink, and paper towels, though.

I also bring Shout color catchers so I can do mixed laundry loads without the fear of ruining something. I bring the self sticking address labels and put them on autograph books eyeglass cases, camera case. I put what resort we're at as well. Have a great trip.

I used to pack stuff, but now we always make a Publix stop on the way from the airport.
