What's it like being at WDW during a hurricane?

Like several others, we were at Yacht Club in November for Nicole.
We just hung out at the hotel. They brought around water and flashlights to every room.
We were staying Club Level, so we didn’t have to worry about getting food.

We were at Caribbean Beach for Ian with our two year old and 9 month old. I feel like the experience is definitely different for moderate and value vs. deluxe, and not in a good way. Normal food options closed or were limited and you had to buy their box meals (sandwiches). That was actually the longest line I stood in that trip. They strongly encouraged you to stay in your room during the worst of it and handed out flash lights, although power never went out. People cleared out a lot of the gift shop food / snacks.

The cast was absolutely great, and it was the same group through out the duration of the event. My daughter got a ton of time with Pluto, Goofy, Captain Hook and Smee. They had dance parties and events in the lobby for the kids before and then after the worst of it came through. The lobby got super crowded, but those dance parties were actually some of the most fun my daughter had on the trip.

We never felt unsafe or worried and Disney took good care of us. Would I recommend it for a vacation…absolutely not…but for what the situation was it ended up ok.

Bright Sun Films had a vlog from Hurricane Irma that was pretty good:
This vlog was great. I really enjoy reading trip reports and peoples' experiences at Disney before, during, and after hurricanes. It's fascinating all the preparation Disney puts into making stays as enjoyable as possible given the circumstances.

We were at Wilderness Lodge last September during Ian and felt safe. All of the cast members were staying onsite, even some on our floor. They call it the "ride it out crew." Disney would send out text messages with updates and post updates online. The parks were closed for 2 days, Wed & Thurs, with a delayed opening on Friday. Hurricane went past in the wee hours of Thursday morning. Our corner room was on the top floor and taking the brunt of the wind howling across the lake.

We were glad to be in a resort with most of the amenities in the main building. They removed the charge for the arcade games and turned Artist Point into a theatre with blankets on the ground for spreading out to watch movies. The country Bears were frequently out and about greeting guests and even hosted dance parties.
