I thought it was Babcia (pronouncecd bahp-chah) someone informed me that it is: Bucia.....is this correct?

Thanks!!

we've always called my great grandmas babci (it just stuck when my dad used to call them that when he was growing up). i've been told by native polish speakers that it is in fact babcia, not babci. apparently there's an americanized form of polish. i've never heard bucia before?

I think the most common is babcia. Of course I checked an online translator and I got a couple other options as well. But babcia was the first one.

My granddaughter calls my mom Bucia, my mom told her to call her that because it is grandma in Polish, I have no idea......

We called our polish grandmother Babci. Don't know if it is right or wrong.

My son calls my wifes mother Babcia.

My street cred:My in-laws were both born in Poland. They both lived there until they were adults. They both travel there pretty regularly. In fact my FIL is there right now.

I'd guess Bucia is a slang like Grandmother, grandma, granny, etc because I've seen it before.

I have a big English/Polish dictionary on my desk and neither of them are in it, but I went here: http://www.poltran.com/pl.php4 and grandmother came up as babcia also.

It's babci. I'm trying to get my nieces to call my Mom that. She's insisting on Nana....though we are not Italian. My BIL has a Polish name, but they are actually German. So that's my protest of Nana. She's not Italian and they're not really Polish, but if we're going to borrow a name, why not babci....:)

that is what I called my grand-ma.

I've always been told that Bucia is slang. Like grandma. Just a different way of saying grandmother.

My great grandmother was called Babcia- my grandma wouldn't go by that "because that is for old people" so she was just grandma.
My Grandfather was alway Dzadju(I know I am spelling that wrong but that is way we always spelled it growing up and he never corrected us) I bought my daughter the book "Dancing With Dzaidju" or something like that after he died. Neither of us can read that without crying.
