What's going on Oct 17 - 24th?

I just decided to go down to WDW for a few weeks and am flying in on the 17th. Wanted to do the first week at WDW because I have plans for the other 2 weeks already.
I tried to book at my DVC but the only thing available was a 1 bedroom on the 19th, everything else was booked, all the studios and 1 bedrooms at least I didn't ask for a 2 bedroom.
So I called the regular booking number and there are rooms available but they are not offering any discounts and there are no free dining offers during that week.
Is there something going on that I don't know about?
I am bringing someone who has never been to WDW and I don't want it to be so packed that he will hate it, but I want to get over to F&W festival at least 2 days.
Anyone?

Fall Break for many Southerners. Before anyone says it, no not everyone. Nevertheless, enough of us to crowd the place.Sorry not everyone gets this break. Not trying to rub it in.

I'm not surprised you can't find availability at any DVC resorts on such short notice.
