What's free dining?

Ive seen a few referencecs to 'free dining' , what is this?

Disney (in the past) has run a deal if you book a complete package including resort, park tickets and dining on the Disney Visa... Free dining means just that... They do not charge for the dining portion of the package... The deal is usually offered the last week of Aug. into the last week of Sept.... The dates change by a couple of days each year.

The free dining is not usually dependent on using the Disney Visa card. Sometimes it is offered to Disney Visa card holders a few days before it is offered to the general public, but it has been offered to everyone in the past. They have offered it in the past during the high hurricane season, in order to attrack more visitors. You get the disney dining plan for free, so it is not all meals for free, one table service meal, one counter service meal and one snack per day per person.

Be careful though, If you take the "Free" dining, You pay rack rates for the rooms meaning you can't get any room discounts (AP, AAA etc) This could get really pricey if you usually stay deluxe.
