What's DVC?

Does anyone have a link to more info or an explanation? Thanks

If you go back to the Dis page, you will notice "Disney Vacation Club" listed a bit further down from "Trip Planning Forum". It is under another subheading, I believe titled Disney "Vacation Club Forum".

I, myself, am still trying to get all of the scoop on this. :flower:

What would you like to know about it?

Disney Vacation Club is essentially a timeshare program, but with a difference. Instead of choosing a week each year, you buy points that can be used at DVC resorts, Disney resorts in general (including California and Paris), the Disney Cruise Line, or quite a few other locations.

Just stop down at the DVC board and ask away.

I have soooo many questions, that I don't think there is enough space on this thread! I will go to the DVC website -- thanks to all of you who are eager to assist. Y'all are the best! :cheer2:

Don't get weirded out with the idea of a "timeshare" and think "NO WAY!" It's like thinking of DAK as a "zoo." Um, not exactly! ::MickeyMo

If you enjoy a vacation to WDW at least every other year (or plan to!), you should investigate and learn more about DVC. For my family, it's about making plans to vacation AS A FAMILY once a year, guaranteed. We sometimes get off track and forget to vacation for a while--we just never have the time or something doesn't come through or something else comes up. With the DVC, we can even decide to forgo this year's trip and save up to take two (or even three!) years of vacation at once--or bring along family or friends.

The other deciding factor for us was the fact that if I'm paying out of pocket, I will never, never, NEVER pay to stay at any of the Deluxe properties. Nope. I am WAY too cheap! The DVC gives me much nicer accomodations than I'd pay for OOP, much more space and the capability to save some money on our food bill by having some meals (mostly breakfast) in the kitchen(ette).

I second 1000th happy haunt's recommendation to check out the DVC boards here on the DIS. Here's a quick link: http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=28

Again, don't let the "timeshare" semantics turn you off!

Happy planning!

Exactly! When most people hear timeshare they think a specific location in a specific type of room during one specific week every year. Relatives own timeshare just outside of Disney and they go every year for "Week 6" They LOVE it - something that rigid would drive me insane though.

DVC is VERY flexible. You can go any month of the year as long as there is availability of course, stay at any one of the DVC resorts,(and the regular non-value hotels too) go for one trip a year, several trips a year, a trip every three years. Stay in a studio, 1 br, 2 br, grand villa etc. Your only real limitation is how many points you have and how and when you use them.

DH and I have been going every 3 years. We will start to go more often now that our youngest is 2. (Before this we kept having babies in between each trip - it was throwing off my vacation schedule - LMAO So far each child has gone for the first time when they have turned two - it's a GREAT age!!!) For now though we have been enjoying going when it felt right- and banking and borrowing points and going with family. In 2003 we had 1 br for 12 days and had two studios for 7 days for my inlaws and my brother. This year we got a studio for my SIL and her family in April and for this trip my sister and brother and their families are coming with us.

We absolutely love DVC and have absolutely no regrets!

Welcome to the DIS DVC Board! :)

You can begin by reading the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) - the link is at the top of the page. As mentioned, you can also get some information on the disneyvacation club website. You can also call 1-800-800-9100 and ask for the free video and information packet.

Once you have a basic understanding of the program, feel free to ask any questions you'd like right here on the DVC Forum.
