I read on another board that the value resorts will soon have suites. Could this also be dvc resorts?

Could this be what the sign was all about???

The value resort suites don't sound at all appealing to me--a chair that folds into a bed? That sounds comfy--NOT! I love DVC and wouldn't trade it for anything. :cloud9:

Back after 9/11 Pop was delayed in opening for around 2 years. At the time there were a lot of rumors and discussion about a possible DVC option there, a value DVC membership. To be honest, I think most of the discussion was from the members side but it appears it did at least come up with DVC and Disney in discussions. Frankly I don't see it happening but you never know.

I am thinking a low cost weekend. I have never stayed at a value but may have it it was not for DVC. The pics did not look to bad. I do not recall a chair bed.

I have to think that the suites at the value resorts comes from a need for them. There are so many families with three children who just could not stay at a value resort. In fact the only moderate they could possibly stay at was POR in the Bayou section IF the room had a trundle bed. This left families with a deluxe or home away from home which many cannot afford.

I work with a woman who was always frustrated because it would cost them a fortune to stay at Disney because they had three kids. Now, they could afford the nicer resorts, but there are many who cannot.

There is also a need for those families of four with kids who are a little older. The rooms at the value resorts are soooo small. There is hardly enough room to walk around. The floorplan looks like all they did was open up the wall between two existing rooms, add a kitchenette, and some new furniture. I think it will be a huge draw for those families who need the extra space.

I would be willing to guess the DVC talk around Pop Century stemmed from the incredibly low attendance from the general public. I would only be guessing, because we weren't members then, but did DVC attendance also drop off, or did those die-hards we are continue to vacation? (I know we took full advantage of the low room rates during those couple of years.)

My guess is this option will be more expensive than getting 2 rooms at a value but we shall see. Also, there are many off site options that are MUCH cheaper for this situaiton if cost is an issue.

Yep, but Disney is losing business to the Holiday Inn Family Suites (the Nick Hotel). There are plenty of people who will pay a little premium to be on site (most people on this board), but for whom the HIFS just make so much more sense. I'd guess this is their target market.

That I understand. I always am amused when people complain about the costs of staying on site like it's an entitlement when they would stay off site much cheaper. It's possible to get a 2 BR most any time of the year for around $500 or less for the week, frequently much less.

No, these suites are changes to the value resorts to allow Disney to capture guests who are now staying off-site. Here's what I wrote in another thread on this subject:

If I'm reading correctly the All Star family suites are not 2-bedroom (2BR) suites — they're 2-room suites. Both rooms serve as bedrooms. There's not a real living room as one would find in real 2BR.

Essentially, an interior door connects two hotel rooms with reconfigured furnishings and fixtures that pack a lot of functionality (including a kitchenette) into a small space.

These family suites should be a great option for families that want or need a little more room. But these suites won't be anything like DVC accommodations.

These suites will be the size of two small ("value") hotel rooms: 2 x 260 sq. ft. = 520 sq. ft.

In comparison, a 1BR at OKW is 942 sq. ft., and a 2BR is 1,395 sq. ft. At the other WDW DVC resorts, 1 1BR is over 700 sq. ft., and a 2BR is around 1,100 sq. ft.

The whole idea is for Disney to offer suites that aren't at DVC resorts, and that appeal to customers who can't (or won't) pay for suites at deluxe resorts or DVC resorts.

As Dean wrote, there's been speculation on this board about a cheaper Disney timeshare brand as an alternative to Disney Vacation Club for potential timeshare customers for whom DVC is too expensive. I don't see that happening. For one thing, a cheaper Disney timeshare brand would be likely to steal business from DVC. For another thing, construction and marketing costs of a value timeshare probably would not be appreciably lower than those of SSR, but the price Disney could charge would be quite a bit lower, putting a squeeze on potential profits.

No, the "coming soon" sign was about a dimensional billboard to build brand awareness for Disney Vacation Club. The dimensional billboard is now complete.
