I am a Senior this year and am going to attend college in the Fall of 2007 and am a little nervous about doing so. So what is college like and what are some important things to bring with you? What didn't you bring that you wished to? Anything else helpful please tell.

well i stayed home and let me tell you, it was the worst decision i have ever made. i am so miserable. all my friends left and i haven't really made new ones. so im kind of biast towards hating college

you need to go into college with the thought of this is something strange and new. things will be different, and hard, but one day you'll realize you are having fun (even with some of those pesky classes) as far as some things to bring along, pictures - lots of them, and i'm assuming you have a cell phone so probably bringing calling cards isn't that big of a deal. what i did was started making lists of things that i used on an everday basis. don't worry, after you are there you will realize that you have forgotten certain things and then when you pack to come back home you will find that you never used certain things. you never know until you are there. but enjoy college, you will meet some of the best friends you ever had!!! :)

This is your typical college day:
Sleep, School, Study, Party, Sleep.

You have a lot of time just to relax with friends and just hang out and wing it. Best 4+ years of your life. You will make some awesome friends along the way. If you don't like to party, don't worry, you will meet people like you and enjoy just chilling and going to games and what not. Even my anti-social WoW playing roommate freshman year found 3 other guys tto just hold minor lan parties with and loves college, they just get massive pizza and mountain dew and play til 4 am. It doesn't matter what you are into you will meet people who like the same stuff as you. As for what to bring, go to target or walmart or something and just go over everything.

I think the college experience depends greatly on whether you are a commuter or a resident. Last year I lived in a dorm room and it was really great because my roommate and I got along really well. I met a lot of awesome people there who shared the same interests as me and just overall had a really great time. This year I transferred to a new school, and although I commute now it's still great because there are a great group of people that are always in the commuter's lounge and we have a great time talking and watching TV every day. The two experiences have been very different, but both have been extremely positive for me. Don't feel bad if you don't like the first school that you go to though, almost everyone I know has gone to 2-4 different colleges before finding the one that fits them best. As long as you go into college with an open mind though, it should be by far the best 4 years of your life.

Honestly, no matter how much people try to describe it for you, it won't do it justice until you go experience it for yourself.

I like my college's slogan. "Somewhere after high school, and before life, is a grand adventure called college."

It has it's really hard moments, sure -- but it can be one of the most rewarding and valuable experiences of your life. :thumbsup2

Well, I;m enjoying college to an extent, but I'm going to be transfering to a different one come next year. I was terrified of starting college and the first day I just thought would be horrible, but once you reach college, everyone seems really nice, well atleast where I go. I love my professors and as long as you keep up with your work, college is a blast. Of course I live at home, so I haven't had the "real" college experience as some would put it, but its fun. :sunny:

College isn't like anything else. It's not really describable. Just go into it with an open mind and an open door. One of the best things you can do for your social life in college is leave your dorm room open during the day when you've got nothing better to do. This is especially true during the first couple weeks. My first college stressed this and I instantly made a bunch of friends.

I got very frusterated with some of the people at school (small school, mostly of one major, not much variation, got on my nerves) and the lack of qualified professors so I transferred and I'm not commuting from home. Honestly, commuting is a lot different. The school that I'm currently going to isn't exactly commuter friendly. Theres not one place for commuters to hang out, we get left out of announcements, and it doesn't help that the college doesn't do hardly anything to promote social behavior (no on campus concerts or decent events - I think they had bingo last month as the big event). Socially, I'm disappointed with commuting but it has a lot to do with the school. When I was staying on campus at my other school, there was a good place for commuters to hang out, they were very active in events, they had a club (my new school has a commuter club too - but no one ever told the commuters about it), and they had a dedicated campus life director running the events.

Having fun and fitting in is as much your ability to adapt and socialize as it is the school's ability to plan events.

i stayed home for school, and i understand what some of you are saying about not being too happy.. i also haven't really made a ton of friends, (which is partially my fault because i don't stay on campus any longer than i have to for class), and i'm not enjoying it too much since all my old friends went away for school.. but i do love having my car- if i lived on campus i wouldn't get to keep my car
and it's also a lot easier with my parents still paying for everything (like food)
i did think i'd get more freedom now that i'm in college (not more freedom than if i'd be living in the dorms, but more than i had in hs is what i mean) and that doesn't really seem to be the case.. but i'm working on it
