What's behind the magic kingdom?

Me and my family have accidentally gone that way before when leaving the Contemporary after breakfast at Chef Mickey's. There is a sign that says Authorized Vehicles only, but there is no one patrolling it or anything. We drove back a little ways (got quite a bit past Space Mountain) and then found a nice little place to turn around and went back happily on our way. It was cool to see some of the stuff back there that you don't see on a normal basis. :thumbsup2 There is the sign that says not to go back there and you probably shouldn't, but its not like the Disney police are gonna come after you if you do. However, I have heard locals come through there all the time and so do Disney Cast Members that are off duty/coming to play on their off days. :confused3

Disney doesn't enforce anything anyway, so what would make this any different?

You can use a fast pass any time of the day after the first return time, people park at resorts to go play in the park, 99% of the time there is no checking of guests parking in the cast parking lot at DAK, Non resort guests seem to end up swimming in pools at many of the resorts, line cutting is not allowed but rarely enforced, so what makes anyone think that they would enforce access to a road that doesn't take anyone directly backstage?

If anything im surprised they havent turned it into a Disney Toll Road just to suck some extra cash out of us.

I really don't understand why some of the posters who do not live next to Disney are so concerned that those who do live right behind the Magic Kingdom use the road behind the Magic Kingdom. It is NOT private!!!

In answer to someone else's question, yes, most of the developments are new so people knew they would hear the MK fireworks every night. It is worth the little bit of noise to be able to see them from your backyard. I can hear the train whistle sometimes too :cool1:

I agree. If you read any of my previous comments on here we only used that road for driving to the Winter Garden Shopping Village. In fact some of my friends from Orlando also use that same road for driving to their houses and even Cast Members use it for driving to work. So no one is breaking any laws for driving past there and I have even seen the Lynx transportation buses driving behind the Magic Kingdom.

Actually, it is. All of the roads within the bounds of WDW are technically private. And the sign as mentioned says "Private Property". Not saying you can't use it - only that it is actually a private road, and Disney did decide to put up a guard house and gate, they could.

I thought only some roads within WDW were private, such as Western Way, with others being public roads, such as Osceola Parkway (I assume, although surely it must become private at some point prior to the AK parking toll plaza).

I may well be mistaken on this, however (too much erroneous information on Disney fan sites).

Exactly! I forgot to say that that the Lynx buses use the road. If the road was not supposed to be used, workers and residents who live behind the road would have to drive at least twenty minutes out of their way to get to the MK.
There are two other roads off of 535 cr that some would consider "private"-one goes to Downtown Disney and the other to the new Golden Oak/Port Orleans/etc., but do we want to open that can of worms?
;)

If you look at all the Disney park maps, there are "trees" where almost all backstage areas are. You would never see backstage areas represented on Disney maps.

I can't believe that you people whine and bicker about a private road on Disney property that can be accessed by the general public.

and I can't believe people like you create an account just to complain about people complaining :thumbsup2 :rotfl2:

Ah, this makes sense. I'm just looking at disney-created maps and I see trees everywhere. I was thinking, why didn't they build here? But now I know. Thanks, all. I've enjoyed reading your replies to me. I think this may be one of those, "disney secrets" thread kind of thing.

Actually, it isn't. I drive Reams Rd every day and there is no "Private Road" signs, seeing as it was there before the Magic Kingdom was built.

As for the housing behind MK, there is one small apartment complex right behind the MK Cast lot. Isn't the best but on Disney salary its affordable for Cast. If you drive down Reams either way, there are neighborhoods, and more apartments. None of these are on Disney property.

I didn't say Reams Road was private. Reams Road I don't believe is on WDW property now, if it ever was part of the land grab. So therefore wasn't included in my statement.

However, if you turn on to Center Drive, there IS a Private Property sign, as I've already discussed.

He's not referring to Reams Rd. He's referring to the road that runs behind MK and exits out to Reams Rd.

Edit: You beat me to it...

My mistake, referring to the road "behind" MK to me is Reams, not Center Dr as it is a MK road.

The discussion started about the road(s) behind the MK itself, starting with World Dr. past the CR and then it turns and becomes Floridian Way - The "road behind MK", in other words :)

Hey, Traveliz, if you're still on here, I have a question for you:

I know you can go out of the south end of the Hess parking lot and get back on Floridian

Way. I'm just trying to figure out how you get back to Reams going north on World Drive without going through the parking lot kiosks.

Can you go north through the parking kiosks before the Magic Kingdom Parking lot if you're in the right lanes? Or do you have to cut around Epcot and then cut back on Beuna to get headed north on World Drive and then Center drive?

I'm asking because my wife and I are looking into the apartments right across the street from the employee parking lot, but I don't want to drive completely around Disney to get back home if we go south of the Hess station. That would be ridiculous.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Ike
