As I wait (im)patiently for these last 5 days to pass before our long-planned trip to the world this Saturday, I've decided to burn off some of my nerves and attempt to write a pre-trip report.
The Cast:
Me - 35 semi-obsessive/compulsive Disney trip planner
DH - 37 obligingly goes along with whatever I plan
DS - 3, and already freakishly obsessed with WDW like his mommy
KF - 34 SIL, also a planner, and vacation commando
JF - 37 BIL, has never been to WDW, and could care less
AJF - 10 Nephew, can't wait!
AF - 4, indulged princess,
, first trip
LR - 33 SIL, antithesis of KF, will follow the herd
DiR - 11 Niece, heck-raiser
DaR - 9 Niece, princess
JR - 24 BIL, first trip
Let me begin by explaining that it has been a tradition in DH's family for years now that every other year we all go on a family vacation. The last 3 trips have been cruises, and the last two have been semi-disastrous with fighting amongst siblings. We all decided to attempt WDW this year so that there would be more room to "spread out" (or hide, as the case may be
). Planning trips is my passion, whether it be for myself or others, so in January I called CRO bright and early one morning and using a code for 40% off rooms booked reservations for everyone. All they had to do was call up, give the number, and pay their deposits....
No one did.
My in-laws (DH's parents) are on a fixed income, and decided that they couldn't afford to go away this year (not true, in retrospect, since they are now planning a perfectly lovely cruise in December!) so they were out. My two SILs also decided not to go.
Fine, since DH and I had booked a cruise in September, we would just go on that. However, DS really really wants to go to Disney again, and it's much cheaper than the cruise
so we keep our reservation and decide to hold out a while before cancelling.
Time passes, and DH & I decide that we really want to go back to WDW again, so I begin to make dining reservations
All done. Fast forward to the announcement that free dining is coming....hold the phone, now KF and her family are back in! We get her booked and I redo all dining reservations, somehow managing to keep Le Cellier in the process (we've tried unsuccessfully to book this the past couple trips, and I was not giving it up!).
Well, weeks later, LR decides that she wants to go with her girls after all (her son is in a baseball tournament in Cooperstown the week of our trip, so his father will go with him). It takes us a week before we find an opening in POR for her with the rest of us. It then occurs to me that if we put JR in LR's room, we could afford to bring him with us by splitting the cost of his ticket among the three other siblings (he has a couple invisible disabilities that prevent him from working) - wait, now we're a Grand Gathering
! But I have to redo our dining reservations.....again
