What's a .rar file?

I found some freebie digital scrapbook files, but they are .rar files and won't download properly. Does anyone know what these are or how to download them?

A RAR file is similar to a zip file in that it's a "wrapper" for compressed files. There was thread on here a week or two ago about what to download so you can un-compress the file. The stuffit expander program that came with my mac already opens the files, so I'm not sure what PC users need to open them.

You can google Win Rar to get the official extractor, but IMO it's a pain in the tushie.

www.extractnow.com is MUCH better and opens ALL types of compressed files, including zips and rars and it opens several at the same time, so i use it in place of win zip as well.
