We are staying at AKL for the first time May 18 and 19, 2004. We are using our DVC points. My parents have decided to join us and are going to pay cash for their room at AKL. We are not annual pass holders, so we don't have those discounts available to us. I just looked at the AAA website and the rates for this time of year are:
$215 per night for standard room
$234 per night for water view
$283 per night for savannah view
Is this a decent deal? Can we do any better, or should we go ahead and book? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

If you are DVC members you might want to consider in investing in an annual pass...of course you don't know when the discounts come out but can always add-on the codes later as they come out. We got a Savannah view for about $210.00 (taxes included). The break even point for an annual is 8 days....you only need one to reserve a room. Just a thought. Also check mousesavers and Dream Unlimited...you can link to that one on the top of the main page..they will make room only reservations for you! Both have great codes...AAA is not usually the way to go..

Thanks for the info! I'll definitely look into Mousesavers and Dreams Unlimited. The next two trips we have planned are May '04 and Dec '05, so an annual pass won't work for us just yet. Hopefully in the future we will be going every year for at least a week each time - then we will definitely get the annual pass.

This past May, I got a standard room for $139 with a code (not AP) .. with the AP discount, I think the rate was $124.

That sounds like a great rate bunnyfoo. I think I'll keep looking and hope that I get something close to what you got last May. Thanks!

when did you book (how far out) to get that great rate for May?

You know, we booked pretty much a month before because we couldn't decide wether we wanted to stay on or off-site. We made the reservations at the beginning of April. If you're looking for codes, keep an eye on http://www.mousesavers.com ... the codes are put on the site as soon as they come out.
