What's a good excursion in KW?

Making last minute decisions for our excursions....any recommendations?

We enjoyed the scavenger hunt. "southern most scavenger hunt" I believe there is a website. WE rented a small electric car (golf cart) that was street legal and cruised all over the island. This was a great way to learn about the island and have fun at the same time!

We did the trolley tour. This is offered through DCL , but you can get it cheaper on your own. Plus if you take it on your own you have the option to getting on and off where you want.

We did the Southernmost Point, Butterfly Conservatory, Hemmingway's House, and Duvall Street. We had a great time.

We will be doing the trolley tour. We want to see several of those sights, but we are doing it on our own to save $$. If we get really cheap we'll just take the bus!
My must-sees are Hemingway house, Hard Rock Cafe (for a pin), Sloppy Joes and Margaritaville (for T shirts) and Kinos for sandals. We will be there July 4 and I bet it will be crowded so we'll decide then if we will go to southernmost point.

islandwatersports.us has a jet ski tour. Sounds pretty good. Haven't tried but am considering it.

Hi Robin!
We will be there with you on the 4th. My DD will turn 4 on the 4th, and my in-laws will be celebrating their 60th anniv.! Will we be the party group, or what?! My in-laws are interested in the trolly tour as well. How do we go about doing it on our own? Is there a # we should call, or is it a "show-up-and-go" kind of thing?

We did the jet ski tour through Island Watersports and had a blast. It was one of the best excursions we have ever done. I don't know the make-up of your party but we had my FIL, DH, DD(15), DD's friend, and myself. We really had a great time and we plan on renting jet ski's from them again when are there in December.

We did the Back to Nature Kayaking tour. This is through DCL, or was last summer, and was a wonderful excursion. But be careful about booking something like this on your own. After several communications with Shirley and her dear hubby as well as DCL we determined that this particular excursion DOES take you out to one of the outlying "islands", but apparently there are a great many that do not.

Having said that, after doing our homework, we booked it and had a marvelous time. Didn't get as far into or around the mangrove "island" as originally planned due to a thunderstorm that messed the tides up a bit, making it too shallow to do the route originally planned.

But had an awesome experience in any event, and because of the weather snafu we were credited a large portion of the fee back.

Note - we were traveling with two teenagers and enjoy this sort of activity anyway. Plus, we wanted to limit the exposure to some of the "wildlife" in Key West if you get my drift.

Think of it as part tour bus, part local bus. You get on/off where and when you want, like your local bus thru town, but they do give a lot of cool info on Key West too

We did the Schooner Sail - the tall ship sail.

This was an excursion that met at about 12:30 pm. So the first morning onboard, the kids got to swim in a clean Mickey pool. I had a facial.

We meet our excursion and took a bus for a 15 minute ride to a dock.

We just sailed.... free soda, free beer and wine - and my oldest fell asleep but the others loved it. We enjoyed it, but you don't get off the boat. We walked back to the ship and shopped and had a great time at Sloppy Joes.

While my DH and I were watching the sunset in Mallory Square we saw the Schooner SUNSET cruise going by us - 2 times - waiting for the sunset.

I must agree with all posters who say the best view has to be from the ship! It was like the Magic had a first row view that blocked rows of restuarants.... I can imagine how disappointed some woudl have felt to show up and think they got a front row seat only to see the Magic sitting so beautfifully in front of their view!

Althought it was wonderful to experience the Mallory Square environment..... I'd watch the sunset on the ship because the performers all light up after the sunset because that's when people well pay attention to them.

We had the best cuban meal that night! We just ran into the restuarant coming out of Mallory Square - it smelled so good! We took a bicycle taxi to all the hot spots and had a great time.

I don't even know how I missed this thread - anything that mentions Key West, my ear antenna's go wild
Anyhow I have mentioned many many times that I have a lot of Key West information I will give anyone to help them while in my hometown - I know all the ends and outs - the good and the bad-I have maps, pamplets, coupons etc that will help you while down there - I can understand that you are far from home, know nothing about Key West, don't know where to go etc, but listen I am here and I do have a toll free number - it doesn't cost you anything but a large envelope and stamps - then of course you have to make it self addressed - and the most important part is NO THERE ISN'T NO STRINGS ATTACHED in any part of this.
Key West is very interesting and so full of history - there were pirates and yep they did keep their "bounties" there and there were bounties that turned Key West into being known as Caya Hueso which means "Streets of bones" - they were noted as "seamen" on the census- if the men were on the ocean for food - they were listed as fishermen - my great grandfather became a "Seaman". Anyhow another tidbit about my hometown.
You also have to take great care of the tee shirt shops in Key West - they have no problem overcharging you ever chance they get - listen I am a 4 generation conch and they almost got me for over $400.00 - the good thing I realized their foolish before I got too far from the shop - I love my hometown but it does have many who want to get rich quick -
