What's a good deck to be on?

We're going to book another cruise while on the wonder. We're either going to book a Cat.11 or a Cat.9. We're on Deck 7 for the Wonder Cruise in 2-3 weeks (it's our first). Was wondering what a good deck was. My definition of "good deck" I guess would be nothing near an engine room or real noisy as I am a VERY light sleeper and I don't want anything to wake up my 2 yo DD. Also, don't want to feel a lot of motion.

Another thing, if I book a Cat. 12 for the 4 of us (2 adults, 2 kids (will be 10, and 3 at the time of next cruise) and there are no Cat. 12's available, but they GTY (Guarantee-whatever the spelling is :) ) does that mean we'll automatically get an upgrade? I saw that on the DCL site..you either get a CAt. 12 if one comes open or something higher. I read somewhere that there are only like 7 Cat.12's on the entire ship. Now, if this is what they do..I'd book Cat.12 all the time because the odds are you probably wouldn't stay in a Cat.12, but you's only pay for a Cat.12. Doesn't that seem weird? Hmmm...maybe we'll book a Cat.12! The cruise we want doesn't have any open, but they are still advertising the Cat.12 price!

We stayed on Deck 1 and loved it. It was pretty convenient to the atrium and dining rooms. There was very little hall traffic. We did hear some banging noises one night which were disturbing, but I suspect everyone on that side of the ship heard that noise.

As far as I am concerned, every deck is a good deck, every room is a good room on a DCL ship.

We booked GTY11 and were upgraded to a Cat. 9

Hope you have a great time.

You're right, if you book a cat. 12 Gty. for 4 people, you will get at least a cat. 11 There are only 13 cat. 12's and they only accomodate 3 people.

Just realize that a cat. 11 is exactly the same as a cat. 12, just on a different deck. (of course you could end up with an even higher cat.)

Cat. 12's are all on deck 2
cat. 11's are on decks 5, 6, 7

The down side is that when you book a Gty. (any catagory) you don't get to pick your location on the ship. They guarantee you the catagory you book or better... depending on where space is available.

I've read that if you're sensitive to motion, midship might be your best bet. Some say lower on the ship is better as well.

No real personal experience there. We were deck 6 aft.
Loved that location.

Only a few weeks to wait for you. Very exciting!
Happy Cruising :boat:

We are in a cat 11 on deck 7 aft. We leave in 2 weeks from today on the wonder. I am hoping this is a good area. From what others have posted I heard that it is. We are very close to the secret deck.

Deck 7 was fine...no noise at all! We were close to the secret deck also. It was pretty neat because on the first night...no one else was out there except my DH and me!! :love2:

We just took our first cruise in April, and we were in rooms 7627 and 7629, cat 11 rooms. They were fabulous!!! Very quiet, and a very quick walk around the corner to the secret deck. You will love it there.

Deck 7 is a great deck...I stayed there twice! Secret deck 7 was a great place to let my then 2 1/2 year old burn off some steam and run around...there was never anyone out there!

Thanks Jilpie, we are in 7629!!!!! I picked a good one huh??? This is our first disney cruise so I didnt know which room to pick and which deck. I knew I didnt want to be in the front of the ship so I just picked this room. I am a lousy sleeper so at least I know it will be a quiet area. Thanks!!!!!!!

I also have to go with deck 7. We stayed aft, and it was very quiet. Hardly any traffic at all. Not to mention, the stairs are right there, so you don't have to wait on the elevators.
The only bad thing that I can think of is maybe the movement of the ship. Some people say that the higher decks tend to feel the movement more. We did feel some when we were there, but it was nothing that made us sick or scared, and it was only for the last night of the cruise when we were crossing back over the Gulf.
Good luck in making a decision. I think that no matter what you choose, you'll be happy...You're on Disney! :flower:

Yes, you'll love this room! You'll sleep like a baby.

To those that took the very back stairs to access the buffet on deck 9...I could only access it up to deck 8, is there another way other than the stairs adjacent to the elevators? Why do the very back stairs only go to deck 8?

We're on Deck 7 on this Wonder cruise too! Room 7541. I'll have to check out the secret deck as well. I have a 2 yo who tend to think she owns every room she is in! :flower: For our next cruise I am just wondering if we should book a Cat.12 or Cat.9. I mean, if you can book a party of 4 (2A/2K) for a room that only sleeps 3 and they automatically bump you into a Cat.11 or higher..why should I spend the $$ on a Cat.9? Wouldn't everyone do that then?

ANY deck is a good deck when compared to my cubicle back at work :rotfl2:

Well, everyone has a unique set of 'must haves' when they cruise.

I think there are probably a lucky few who will only book concierge cabins.
Others wouldn't think of cruising without a balcony.
Some don't need the balcony, but must have the window/light in a cat. 8 or 9
Others are fine with an inside cabin, but want to pick a specific location on the ship.

So none of those folks would be lining up for the cat. 12 gty.

Then there are those who say give me the cat. 12 guarantee and put me where you want... I'm on the ship.

Different strokes for different folks.

Well, put AZ PIrates! You've given me something to think about. I'd LOVE to have a balcony, but just can't afford it. We're cruising in 2 1/2 weeks so we'll see how we like the Cat.11 room. Not that we are claustrophobic, but a window would be nice if we are on the ship for 7 days. I'll probably book a Cat. 9 next trip.
