whats a good budget?

What is a good budget for a family of six. Three adults three children (17,13,7) for seven nights. We want to fly from nc and stay at a good neighbor hotel.

Can't help with airfare cost. All I can offer is how we budget.
We are a family of 4 with PAPs. We always stay on site. (Had some bad experiences with good neighbors). Although a LOT of people on DISboards love the good neighbor hotels.

Anyway.... A good neighbor hotel will range from $100 to $300 a night for a family of 6. You will either need 2 rooms or a suite. Someone else, I'm sure can help with which hotel. In my opinion the closer the better.

Food cost really depends on how you eat. We generally eat a small breakfast (or use the concierge lounge), have a sit down lunch (this is the largest portion of food budget) and then have a "quick service" dinner. Also figure in a few snacks (dole whip, tiger tail, ice cream). In all our food budget is around $300 a day. Some days if we do Napa Rose or Blue Bayou it will be more.

Souvenir budget all depends on your desires. Our first time taking our kids in we spent about $700 on souvenirs. Now it is rare that we spend more than $200. (There isn't much new to them). Just remember a plush Mickey at the local Disney Store is around $20 and in the park it will be $35. You may consider buying a few souvenirs before you go to save some money. T-shirts are another example. Kids shirts at Disney Store are 2 for $20 and in the park they are $20 each.

I hope this is some help. Everyone on Disboards seems to have different ideas on how to save money, so hopefully you will get more replies.

We are a family of 4 and I usually figure around $200 per day for in park food and expenses (not including hotel)... some days more (say that day when you have a lunch ressie at Carthay Circle that will blow that budget out of the water!) and some days less. So I would say pp's $300 a day would be a good rough estimate.

We always eat breakfast in the hotel room to help with costs (plus we arent big Bfast eaters).

We are a family of 4! The more meals you eat that are not sit down in the park, the less you will spend. We probably spend $100 a day-not counting breakfast, which is provided at our hotel.

i've only been to DL once but will try to help.

we are a party of 6 going in may. we are driving and not flying so i can't help with that part.

we are staying at the Hyatt Orange County. right now they have a rate of $250 per night for a 2 bedroom suite. one room with a king and the other room with 2 queens, a small living room with pullout couch inbetween. there is a shuttle to the parks. so you could plan on $300 per night for hotel to include taxes.

there is a small fridge in the hyatt room so we plan on eating our breakfast at the hotel, getting something for lunch at the park and pizza or something easy for dinner. we are not big foodies. i budgeted $120 per day for food. again, we are pretty simple in this department and i plan on going to the target (across the street) and getting a few snacks, bread, yougurt, etc

souvenirs. i am giving each of my children $50 to spend in the park. the remainder of our group is adults and i don't think this is an issue for the rest of us.

transportation. i am not sure what the shuttle costs but i have budgeted $40 per day for additional transportation.

our tickets will be $1300 - that is a 3 day hopper pass for 4 adults & 2 children.

we will be skipping the character meals this time as my girls are not fans of costumed characters. we will see them in the park if they work up the nerve

i also have gasoline costs and a hotel on the way in my budget but that would not apply to you. i hope this helps. i think where you stay will dictate many of your expenses. good luck

I'm staying July at the anaheim inn best western. Aaa rate is $170 a night for a suite (3 double beds in two rooms). I budget $7 for breakfast, $10 for lunch (we eat a kids meal onsite even if we're adults) and $20 for dinner. There are loads of places you can eat for even less, which means you can go higher on some meals. We didn't spend over this and actually used food money for a snack every day and bought my dd3 Minnie ears and a stuffed Minnie. I didn't feel deprived in the least! Look on the budget board if you are looking to save some $$.
