I have boy/girl twins who will turn 10 in December. I would like to get them interested in a book series, but I have no idea what is out there. My daughter who is now 20 used to read the Baby Sitter Club books, but we got rid of them a long time ago.

I need ideas for girls and for boys. Thanks!:lovestruc

my 9 yo DS likes the Magic Tree House series, A-Z mysteries, Secrets of Droon (some what) I'll try to think some more and post them. He is starting to get into bigger chapter books now. He liked Jigsaw Jones and Capt. Underpants also.

I read on this board about a series by Bruce Coville called the Magic Shop books. I got the first book in the series, which is called Jeremy Thatcher Dragon Hatcher. This is the first book that my DS 9 has really gotten into for a long time. We would read a chapter together at bedtime and he would ask if he could stay up to read more (that was a no brainer) :rotfl: . I just placed a hold on the 2nd book at the library.

My kids both loved Bruce Coville but their fav was The Boxcar Children. In fact, DD who is now going to be 21 asked me if I would buy them for her again! lol She gave them all away and now wants them back. As they get older, they may enjoy the Redwall series by Brian Jacques.

we read lots of Magic Tree House and Avi writes wonderful books too. Flat Stanley was fun. HTH.

Disney themed....Kingdom Keepers (there are two books in the series so far: Disney After Dark and Disney at Dawn). For very sensitive kids, these may be a bit scary....they involve high school kids who are made into halograms to interact with guests at MK (1st book) and AK (2nd book) and are in "danger" several times from the villans at the park. Read more details about the books online to decide if they are age appropriate for your kids.

Other Disney themed ones that are definitely fine for 10 year olds (I have 12 year old identical girl twins).....

Geraldine McCaughrean has written a sequel to Peter Pan....the books were authorized by the Children's Hospital that holds JM Barrie's copyright to Peter Pan. It's called Peter in Scarlet I think.

Ridley Pearson and Dave Barry have written a series of books with Peter Pan as the star....Peter and the Starcatchers; Peter and the Shadow Thieves....and I think there is another in that series.

RIdley Pearson also wrote a series about Never Land.

I think Magic Tree House would be too young for 10 yo unless they are having trouble reading. My 7 yo, who is reading a little below target levels, loves Magic Tree House. I can't imagine my 10 yo reading them. At my kids school Flat Stanley is also a 2nd grade book.

I don't have any suggestions for you. I checked out this thread to see if anyone had any ideas because I also have a 10 yo. My problem is that she gets nightmares so Harry Potty is out even though the reading level is probably right. She recently read a book called "I, Coriander" which she loved but its not a series.

My son loved Diary of a Wimpy Kid.... not the most challenging reading, and some illustrations... but got him to read nonetheless.

My older son read the Artemis Fowl series... I think he started when he was 11 or 12.

There are also the great Matt Christopher books for sports enthusiasts!

Catrin

These are pretty popular around here! Jerry Spinelli is another good one---appropriate and interesting for several years. Sharon Creech is another one---definitely for girls. Brian Jacques for humor. Gary Paulsen is SUPER popular with boys especially, and some of his easier stuff would be okay if your son is a good reader.

My sister was a big fan of "Russell Sprouts." I don't know what level that is, but it's still talked about, so it must have been pretty good...

It really depends on what kind of books they like to read---a lot of what's out now is fantasy. The kids love it; it does nothing for me :confused3

This is a good site with info on authors:

Chronicles of Narnia!!!

Those books changed how I looked at reading. I have always wanted someone to make them into great movies (not those BBC nightmares or the animated thing). I was THRILLED when Disney took it on and created such wonderful adaptations.

We watched Spiderwick this weekend for our movie night. My kids loved it and my husband and I liked it too. It sort of reminded me of a Jumanji or Last Mimzy sort of a movie.

Love Lemony Snicket! (I play Violet in a multi fandom RP and she has already become friends with The Doctor)

I buy the books for our school library. I have read and loved the series which starts with Chasing Vermeer by Blue Balliett another great one with only 2 books so far is The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart
From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler by E.L. Konigsburg. These are all great.
Another very popular series although I have not read them my self is the Warrior series by Erin Hunter. There are quite a few books in this series.

My 10 year old son loves the City of Ember series...the movie just came out recently and we had to see it on opening night. City of Ember is first, then People of Sparks and Prophet of Yonwood. There is a new one (he just got it yesterday) but I can't remember the name.
He also likes the Wolf Brother series by Michelle Paver. I can't remember the names of the other books in the series but he already is anxiously awaiting the 4th book that comes out next summer!

My kids loved these!

My DD9 (almost 10) just finished "The Fire Within by Chris D'Lacey...It is the first in a series of 3, I think. Anyway, she LOVED it and really wants to begin the next book.

My DD11 liked The Tale of Emily Windsnap series. She also really liked Fairy Haven and the Quest for the Egg, and also Fairy Dust and the Quest for the Wand. She still enjoys the Magic Tree House books even if they are way below her reading ability. Other top stories were The Wish (I think that was the title, same author as Ella Enchanted)http://www.amazon.com/Wish-rack-Gai...=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1225340566&sr=1-1, Meg Cabot ...Rules for Girls (sorry can't remember the complete title).http://www.amazon.com/Allie-Finkles...r_1_13?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1225340464&sr=1-13
She also liked the Chronicles of Narnia.

A fun one for both would be the Boys Against the Girls series.http://www.amazon.com/Boys-Start-Wa...=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1225340701&sr=1-2

Right now we are reading The Candy Shop War by Brandon Mull:thumbsup2http://www.amazon.com/Candy-Shop-War-Brandon-Mull/dp/159038783X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1225340948&sr=1-1
