What's a DIS "referral"?

I was looking at my profile and in the Forum section it has the following information:

What is a Referral? I looked at someone else's and they had 1.

Susie, I believe when you tell someone about the DIS, when they register, they can put your name down as a referral. I think I have three referrals to my name.
