the TreeHouse Villas? I know they were closed for some reason or another but never understood why and will they ever open again? I would love to stay at one. Anyone have any info?

They sit on the property where SSR is....many of them have alot of woodrot and are in utter disrepair. Rumors are that they can't tear them down because they sit on "wetlands" or something like that and cannot be rebuilt upon and that maybe they'll referbish the already existing buildings at some point and may become part of DVC ? They were housing CM's at one point too....

If you do a search there are lots of threads on this as this question pops up every few months.

::yes:: :sad1:

Yes, unfortunately, you are right! I loved my stay at the treehouse villas. My sister and I got our own bedroom on the first floor with our own bathroom! There was a balcony and my sis and I would look for golf balls since our villa was right on the golf course. :( Bring 'em back!

We stayed at POR at the end of May and took the boat to DTD. You pass the treehouses on the way and the CM driving the boat told us a little about them. Like the above poster said, they don't plan to tear them down because they can not rebuild on that land because it is considered "wetlands." He said that there was no talk of opening them in the near future. He said that they all continue to be fully furnished and all the electricity is running, including the AC!! I couldn't believe that they were wasting all this money on running AC in rooms that weren't being used. He said the electricity was on so they could turn on the lights at night, partly for security and partly to help light the waterway for the boats.

Of note, some of the treehouses looked like they were in pretty ruff shape.

Hope this helps.

Actually, being a floridian now, I would think that if they're keeping the villas fully furninshed, part of the reason for running the AC even if no one is staying in the villas would be to keep the inside of the villas and all the furniture from getting all yuckie:scratchin If you didn't run the AC, the heat and humidity inside would probably cause all kinds of mold and whatnot and being that there's already woodrot to alot of the buildings as it is, if they're still in good enough shape to keep the furniture in them, I'm sure they must have to keep the AC on to keep the buildings and furnishings from getting any worse.

At least that's my thinking anyway:scratchin

When we cruised by in December many had trees up against them from the Hurricanes last fall. Has all that been cleaned up now? Trees were even leaning over the electrical lines on one treehouse.

Last Oct we stayed at POR and on the way to DTD, our boat captain said they had to be closed because they weren't handicap accessible and didn't meet code for some Disability Act/Law. :confused3
