Whatever happened to River Country?

We haven't been to Disney since 2002. At that time, there were rumors going around FW that River Country was going to be turned into the resort pool for those staying at FW. We're talking about going back next year but with the price of gas, it may be cheaper to fly than to pull our travel trailer. :rolleyes2

While the RiverCountry rumor continues to persist, the reality is that Disney officially announced just recently that River Country is closed and will not reopen. It is in a sorry state of disrepair and would be much cheaper at this point to bulldoze it and start from scratch, if Disney should ever decide it would be worth their while.

Now I need a good cry. So much more relaxed and laid back than the other water parks. :grouphug:

That is really a shame. I always thought that given that the campgroud doesn't have a themed pool...and they always complain at the Wilderness Lodge that the campground guests are using the pool..that they should use the pool/slide area of River Country for the campground guests. Not the area connected to Bay Lake..but the seperate pool area. Well..sounds like that is never gonna happen. Given that over at the WL they have a small pool for a resort of it's size...and no matter how much you tell folks.."no pool hopping" it's gonna happen..they should provide an upgrade to the campground pool. It certainly is big enough...but I often wonder those guests that pay close to $280. for those cabins feel about not having a themed pool..like the ones at the other resorts...they are paying the same money as a deluxe resort.
In any case, River Country was a one of a kind...too bad it's gone for good.

I pay $280 a night for the cabins for the space(6 people in a room) AND A FULL KITCHEN. also for the peace and quiet that ft wilderness offers. To me not having a themed pool sucks :sad2: but not a must. (hopefully a good ap rate comes out and i dont have to pay $280 a night)

Wow..$280.00 a night and no themed pool...you are a pretty good sport.

For us..we generally stay at the WL...and when we do finally get our travel trailer to FW...I know we are going to have to book a night or two over that way...my kids(which aren't little..so no fooling them)...won't go for the FW pool alone. Myself and hubby...no big deal..we could care less. However, I wouldn't mind if they offered a hot tub or two..I think that would be a nice option. Oh well..if we do manage to have mom visit at the WL at the same time we might be able to use the pool as a guest of hers. I know I've had friends staying at the WL and her brother visited while he was at another Disney resort(PO)..and they cleared with the front desk and it wasn't a problem. So that's an option to..and cheaper than booking a room at the Lodge for use of the pool! We are just kind of spoiled...having stayed at the WL, Poly and Beach Club. Love the campground...I'm trying to figure out when we can go. It seems there is always something going on and we'd like to be able to take a couple of weeks..giving us time to travel there and back from NY and still have 7 to 10 days in the campground. Well...here's hoping!

we go at spring break and have paid with tax 192, 197, 199 and this year 202 for a cabin and the rack rate is 334+tax. I wouldnt give up my deck, grill, nobody above, below,or next to, and car right outside the door for any room at any property, welll................maybe a suite at the GF. Anyway, I would love to have a waterslide and hot tub (CAN I GET A HOT TUB)
