What you need to be Florida resident?

Just wondering if anyone knows what sort of "proof" one would need to qualify for the Florida resident tickets/discounts. My parents just bought a place in Florida, therefore have a Florida address & will paying state property tax etc. Just wondering if this enough to qualify or if they need a Florida license or something else. Any info would be great.

I am pretty sure owning a house does not qualify you as a resident. I thought the same thing myself when my parents bought. I am pretty sure you need a driver's license and must reside in Florida (not as a snowbird). I am not too sure but that is what I have experienced in the past.

Thanks,
Andrea

That all I have ever required to prove residency is a Fla drivers licence. I've owned property in Fla for many years (vacation home) and have never been asked for more than that?

Driver's license, and a utility bill is what we've heard:)

Can you really just buy a home down there and travel back and forth? How do they do the mortgage and stuff if you are not a citizen?

In my parents case, there is no mortgage. They can go for 6 months at a time due to medicare

Get a mortgage and not be a citizen.
We got our first mortgage almost 17 years ago there and trust me, it was fairly hefty! As long as you keep up the payments they will give you almost anything!! :thumbsup2

If I recall correctly..we had to get a letter from our bank and also a bank balance statement and they check your credit here as well. Not a hard thing to do...As long as you are reliable here you are allright there.

No need to be a citizen to buy a home anywhere. I know people who live in Canada and have bought homes in Bermuda, England, Florida and Arizona (different people of course). As long as you have the money, they don't care what your citizenship is. The banks/lawyers/real estate people do a lot of faxing back and forth. I do believe you need a Florida drivers license in order to qualify as a resident, although I don't know how they can enforce that, cause there are some people who do not drive but are still Florida residents. I think if you had a property tax statement, you would maybe have a chance in arguing against the drivers license only rule.

I googled the topic and this is what came up as Disney's requirements:

To show proof of residency, you must provide any one of the following:

Florida driver's license
Florida state-issued ID card (must have Florida address)
Current utility statement with your name and Florida address along with a corresponding picture ID
Florida voter's registration card with corresponding picture ID
A college ID for a Florida college
Florida-based military ID

It would appear that a utility bill showing the Florida address with a Canadian driver's license will be good enough.

A utility bill is not enough, particularly with a Canadian rather than a Florida ID. I was told when I worked at TDS here in FL they haven't accepted a bill as proof of residency for some time.

From Disney's website:

Proof of Florida residency is required -- you must provide any one of the following:
* Florida driver's license
* Florida state-issued ID card (must have Florida address)
* Florida voter's registration card with corresponding picture ID
* A college ID for a Florida college
* Florida-based military ID

You can get a Florida ID for $3 at the DMV. My snowbird in-laws were able to do that and keep their New Mexico driver's license and get Florida resident rates at WDW.
