What would your ideal road trip be?

If you are getting married on Lake of the Ozarks, which I love by the way, I would head west.

You could jump on Route 66. It would a beautiful drive and still not very hot at that time of year.

Me too. The Ozarks are nearly in the middle of the country. You could make to Denver or even Yellowstone National Park in a couple days. Perhaps follow the Oregon Trail part of the way. Or take route 66 and see the Grand Canyon. Or head up to Rapid City, SD, and see Mt. Rushmore, Deadwood, Wind Cave, the Badlands, Devils Tower, and Custer State Park--beautiful part of the country.

I'm a big fan of road trips. We took our kids cross-country with our RV in 2007 and I can't wait to go again. I think 2012 might be our year.:thumbsup2

Charleston, SC, Gaitlinburg, TN or Savannah, GA or to just drive through a few states and visit the silly landmarks or haunted locations.

Have fun :goodvibes:

My idea of the ideal road trip would be going as far as the family room. :lmao: I enjoy travel, but car rides rank among my least favorite things.

I'm getting married in late May and we are trying to decide what to do for our honeymoon trip. We had thought about an exotic beach vacation, something super relaxing. This is my second marriage and I have 2 girls, 9 and 13 that will be staying behind. We got to thinking that it might be fun for just the 2 of us to drive all over and see a bunch of different places. The beach we would totally do with the girls, a 10 day road trip.... No thank you! :)

So, we have up to 10 days. Late May/early June. We will be getting married at the lake in the Ozarks (my mom and dad's house on the water) on a Saturday and leaving there early evening. We'll want our first stop to be someplace fairly close (6 hours or less) from the wedding so we won't feel like we have to rush off. We don't mind lots of driving. Would love to find 3 or 4 good stops.

So far I am considering

Eureka springs, Arkansas - spa day, ghost tour, shopping and touring historic district

Savannah, Georgia - need to research what to do here.

St. Augustine, Florida - lots of cool historic stuff, beach

I would love to know if anyone has any great ideas. I'm open to anything.

I've always wanted to drive Route 66, myself! :)

My favorite road trip ever has been from Los Angeles up North to San Francisco (Highway #1 or Pacific Coast Highway). Incredible breathtaking views with great places to stop along the way. LA, Pismo beach, Hearst Castle, Monterey Bay, San Fran.

I will tell you that if you go west its about 24 hrs of driving to get to the beach while if you go east then its about 18 depending on where you want to end up.

I would shoot for the West. It's much more beautiful. You could hit Grand Canyon and then on to San Diego. If you wanted you could backtrack through LA, Disneyland, Las Vegas, Denver and Rocky Mtn National Park and back home.

We did this four years ago, only in the opposite direction. We flew across country to San Francisco, then drove the California coastline. Absolutely stunning! One of my favorite stops was Hearst Castle. Amazing place and wonderful tour!

We drove from San Francisco to San Diego, then over to Tucson and up to Phoenix. Just a tip, but if you're considering southern Arizona in your trip, it is very hot in June and July!

We've driven from Tucson to Las Vegas several times. The scenery is especially pretty as you get closer to the Hoover Dam, which is another site worth visiting. The Grand Canyon is breathtaking, and if you stay in Williams, you can visit attractions on Route 66. Also, Kingman, AZ is on Route 66 and there is a museum there chock-full of Route 66 history and memorabilia.

You could continue heading east on Route 66 and visit Meteor Crater and have your picture taken "standing on the corner in Winslow, Arizona", a trip my husband and I are planning on taking this spring.:)

My idea road trip would be on a bike through Tuscany or Provance. I've done the prior and hope to do the latter soon.

Dh and I kind of did a roadtrip for our honeymoon. We flew into Dublin Ireland and drove around, kind of clockwise around the country. We stopped in
Waterford--saw the crystal factory and Rock of Cashel
Cork and Blarney castle
Kilarney and drove around the ring of Berra (one of our B&B hosts told us it was a nicer drive than the Ring of Kerry)
Bunratty Castle
Up to Galway, the cliffs of Moher and Kylemore abbey

then we started getting short on time so we drove East straight across the country to Dublin and spent a day there before heading home.

Right now I'm sorta planning out a cross country trip I'd like to take with my family if Dh gets orders to the west coast soon. We're in VA and I'd like to go to Pittsburgh, then to St. Louis, then through Kansas to Colorado and spend several days doing the Rocky Mountains, maybe Dinosaur national Park, then down to the Grand Canyon and and finally ending in San Diego...
