Now, I'm not planning on SAYING anything to anybody. I just want opinions, because I'm curious as to what others think on this issue.

Right now we are going through an bad drought here in Texas. We've been limited to watering once a week (soaker hoses to water the foundation and ONLY the foundation are exempt) now. Flyers have been sent to houses in our neighborhood with ways to conserve water (bathing together :teeth: and so on). So DH and I are doing our best to conserve water since we know things are so danged dry.

The people who live directly behind us have gone out and bought one of those giant inflatable waterslides (kinda like this one ) and they've been out there in it most of the day. I'm tempted to remind them that we are in a drought and that water conservation should be a priority. But I'd feel like I was butting in if I did so. I mean, who am I to say what they can and cannot do on their own property even if they are wasting a ton of water on that thing?

We have a drought here also & can only water at night,
but nowhere in the official rules are there any mention of not being able to fill up a inflatable pool. :confused3

If it were a small inflatable pool, that would be one thing. But this is a water slide that requires water constantly running down it in order to be used. IMO, it's just really a lot of wasted water.

But again, JMO. YMMV.

I don't get how those work. Does the water recycle back up to the top, or does it just all end up creating a huge mud puddle on the lawn?

I don't know what I'd do in your situation. Surely your neighbors know about the water restrictions. Maybe they're just counting this as their once-a-week watering. :confused3

Here in NY if your caught "wasting " water when a draught warning has been issued you get fined! :sunny:

I'm assuming the water does not recycle itself back up to the top, but I'd have to find out. And the only way for me to do that is to pull a chair up to the fence and look over (because I'm short and can't see over the fence). I'm sure they ask me what the heck I"m doing watching them. :rotfl2:

Actually, now that I think about it, I wonder if calling the property mgr and letting her know (since she's got more authority than I do) would be a more proper thing to do.

I don't know if its worth fighting with your neighbor's about. You DO have to live there and they may turn sour with you... is it worth it is the question?

I want one of those. LOL!

Ughh, a tough one. I get so mad at my neighbors because they water the lawn for hours at a time. I mean 7 or more HOURS!!! We aren't in a draught but will be soon if they keep it up, lol.

This is why I like having my own well.

:rotfl:

We have both city water and a well.

I use the well water for all lawn watering and car washing.....so you see you never really know, do you? ;)

Maybe today is their day for using water?

I live in Texas too, and our city's water restrictions are: no sprinklers, drip irrigation, car washing or filling up pools except on your designated water days. My days are Sunday and Thursday - the days are staggered throughout out neighborhood.

If they are on the street behind you, they may have different water days than you. I know my neighbors across the street do not share my water days.

However, we can water with a handheld hose at any time.

If a city inspector sees running water coming from your property at any time (i.e. running into the street or alley) they can shut your water off and charge you $50 to get it turned back on.

I wouldn't say anything to them myself - if the water hits the street, someone is bound to call it in and the problem will be solved.
