What would you pack?

I tend to over pack for trips and usually my kids don't wear half the stuff I pack for them. I have two sons ages 12 and 10. I would like to get an idea what everyone else would pack for two boys for a trip 7nights/8days to Disney in December. Thanks :thumbsup2

I like to pack clothes for 1/2 the trip and spend 1 afternoon sitting by the pool while the laundry is in and the kids are in the pool swimming. It is pretty convenient. Most kids tend to wear the same shirt, shorts, etc. day in and day out so you don't tend to wear 1/2 the items anyway. So I guess 4 outfits and 2 pairs of pj's, 2 pairs of shoes, and 2 bathing suits. I do pack enough underwear for the whole trip though and plenty of socks!
Other than the clothes...sunscreen, pennies & quarters, snacks, some kind of entertainment be it gameboy, cards, a book, etc.

I always do the same thing too! I have 2 boys (that are a bit younger, 7 & 3) but on our last trip I packed 2 shirts for every pair of shorts or pants. In our house we usually wear jeans 2 times before washing unless they get yucky, so packing like that would save space and there is always the wash if necessary. :teeth:

I always way over packed as well! I'm getting better though...
I have an 11yo boy and a 9yo girl (girls just need more space for accessories, etc.) but I definately agree with bringing more t-shirts and less shorts/pants. Just in case, I would pack or have them wear for the trip a pair of jeans or some type of long pants just in case. One sweatshirt and one pair of pj's would work well for my kids. They can always wear any of their t-shirts they might get as a souvenir as pjs or to wear. I have done wash and think it is much easier than packing more and trying to keep track of it.
Please don't laugh...but as far as underwear goes, I try to bring their "ready for the trash" underwear...they toss as they go! It saves on wash and cleans out their drawers as we do it. This way, I can pack pretty far ahead without upsetting the laundry balance.
I definately think less is more... I like my kids to dress nicely, but who will really notice if they wear the same clothes over again! (Unless the people at home who scrutinize your photos! Yes, I have a friend who notices these things!) Happy packing!

I'm a fan of the ZipLock packing method...I'm a "just in case" packer as well and always overpack...with the Ziplock method, I put one outfit per day in a bag, zip it up and then just pull out the "bag of the day" (I have to let DD pick a bag..she's such a GIRL! but the ziplocks cut down on the fights). After the clothing is used, I pop it back in the bag and throw it into the "dirty" suitcase.

I love the throw and go undies method!! That's pretty much my life right now potty training my 3 year old, if it's too nasty I just throw it out. :) :rotfl: :rotfl2: :lmao:

We aways go winter and the first trip I SO overpacked. We do the disney family t-shirt thing so sometimes we will wash out a shirt or two in the room. No laundry on vacatin rule here. I pack about 3 pairs jear (wear twice) a couple pair of shorts, one turtle neck to layer if it is really cold, 6 or 7 shirts and a couple sweats. MOst shirts and sweats are disney ones. Enough underwear and socks for every day plus 1/2 again. One swin suit and one or two pairs of PJ and a mid-weight jacket and gloves and a hat just incase. Only need it once but would have frozen with out it that trip!!! Doing a few nicers places this trip so one "dressy" outfit each too.

Good luck and do not worry. Underpacking means getting to buys something NEW !

I usually pack enough for 4 or 5 days then do laundry when I run out. For DS (6), I would add a couple more outfits to what I've packed for myself.

I will pack maybe two shorts and two long pants, unless it's cold weather, then no shorts. About 4 or 5 shirts and one long sleeve shirt plus a jacket and thermal shirt too.

Usually 5 undies and 7 for DS.

As long as you're willing to do laundry, you shouldn't need more than the above. In fact, I think you could go with less...I'm trying to next time.

Good luck!

My boys are almost the same age as the OP - 11 & 8. For our 10 day trip, I'm planning on 5 or 6 pairs of pants each and a variety of short and long sleeved shirts for layering. I also plan on doing laundry about 1/2 way through the trip. Since socks and underwear don't take up much space, I'm planning on bringing enough for everyone to last the trip. Then I'll just be washing pants and shirts and won't have to worry about the little stuff. :)
