What would you do?

Contact the superintendent of schools in your county. You could also contact the state DOE if you don't get action from your first contact. Schools have very specific rules on internet use and I can't imagine this being acceptible. If this is a teacher, he has no business teaching with that kind of attitude.

I love the idea of letting someone objective go over the material before deciding. Also, make sure that the teacher is actually the one spewing the filth if others also live at the same address.

And good luck!

Most organizations, including the school board I would imagine, have an IS or IT department. I would report it to them. Most organizations have rules or policies/procedures regarding personal use of work computers, what they can be used for, and what type of "behavior" is expected for their use. For example, at my hospital I have access to the computers. I can use them for what's required for my patients' care, but I cannot use them to look at other patients' information if they are not under my care. I can use the Internet to research something work-related, but I cannot use it to DIS during work hours. If they track me using the computer for something I shouldn't, I can be suspended or fired, depending on what the breach is.

Report it to IS/IT, let them investigate and handle it according to their policies. Most organizations make it very clear these days that anything you do on a computer is subject to their review, and is technically their "property".Having your IS/IT department handle it gets you out of the loop, so to speak, so there is less chance of anything coming back to bite you on the butt.

I do not care if it is the school janitor!!!
Would I want a convicted pedophile to be the janitor at my childs school. He!! no.

::yes::

Soham Murders

[I don't think that the person in questions is a paedophile, but just to make a point that children get to know and trust most people in a school environment]

If you continue to be hesitant to report the teacher, here's what I would do: Print out all evidence and mail to teacher in a manila envelope (no return address!) along with a letter informing them if this activity doesn't cease immediately that they will be reported to the proper school authority. They would probably be *horrified* to learn their activity is being watched but they wouldn't know by whom, how many or for how long. Personally, I'd HATE that and it would make me squirm if I were in their shoes!

I think if the person is made aware of crossing the line, he/she will stop. I don't think it is worth someone's livelyhood. were there actual threats made?

Anne--I do think you should report it, especially since there are threats and hateful comments about certain groups. I'm sure you have the appropriate documentation since you brought it up here. There's a slight chance that a student could be logging in as the teacher and making these comments, but you probably would have spotted that. You might want to contact the school's principal, at least initially, instead of going to district administration or the school board. They might require more involvement on your part.

I probably wouldn't do anything...unless the crude language and trouble was directed at me....then I may tell..but otherwise I really don't like being a rat.
::yes:: Me to. Or unless the kids could see it. But its an adult so....I dont know

If my child was going to the school in question, I would be grateful if someone who had this information gave it to the proper authorities. And if he threatened you also, I would take it up with your police department. Good luck.

Just wanted to say. I love the pic in your siggy!!!

I would notifiy the appropriate authorities. Who those authorities are depends on the structure of your school system. We just had an incidient in our district where a teacher was found to have left threatening notes to three different students. One of the notes was even left in the parent's van. She's not in the classroom now, but it is hard to imagine what she might have said to her students.

Thanks! It was in a Appalachian photo archive website and it just haunted me for some reason. Sad but peaceful at the same time.

No matter who is doing it.

No matter where it is originating from.

The school should be notified that this situation exist.
I can see no reason to just sit on this kind of evidence.

Even high school teachers are entitled to their opinions. I think that is called "freedom of speech". My mother is a teacher in the public school system, and they are allowed to use the computers for personal use during their breaks.

Unless someone has made some kind of realistic physical threat against you, than, no, I would not report it. From what it sounds like, you only know this person from some posts on the internet, and, honestly, that is not evidence of anything. I could be a 10 year old boy who believes the exact opposite of anything I have posted, and you can't know that from posts on a board.

I am sorry if I am not understanding this correctly, but it sounds to me like you "got into it" with this individual on a website. You now seem to be taking a personal vendetta against them. :confused3 Are you sure you are not letting your personal views on this person cloud good judgement. You have told us that this person has "threaten" you, I therefore assume that the two of you have had words....while I do not think anyone should threaten another, is it possible that you provoked this person? We only know your side of this story and that makes it hard for me to offer you any real advice.

I agree 100% with this post! I think everyone is forgetting that teachers are people and we do have freedom of speech here.

Just b/c Anne thinks someone's political leanings are "spewing hate" that doesn't make it true. As long as the teacher is not professing their views in the classroom and indoctrinating the children.....then his/her views are none of your concern.

I think someone is taking an internet message board WAAAAAYYYY too seriously. Also...I hope the OP considers this - when you mess with someone's lively hood - be prepared for the consequences.

ITA. ::yes::

Anne - I trust your judgment. If this person is spewing hates, threats on a school computer that's enough for me. I would report it forthwith.

While teachers do and should have freedom of speech that does not apply to using school owned equipment. That applies to any job not just teachers. If they are doing it from their home computer that is a different issue
