This is the deal, I have a 1 bedroom at VWL for 12/28-1/2, my waitlist came through for a 2 bedroom same time.

My family wants to go, but doesnt want to go. They would love to go, but feel the crowds will really dampen their enjoyment (they are wimps), but if we don't go park crazy,or go real early, it would make things better, then I was thinking, let the kids miss one day of school, come home 1/3, and the crowds should really dwindle on 1/2 and have an enjoyable day?

I am sure hubby could golf that way he is not cranky about crowds, and there are tons of non-park things to do, plus if we get lucky, hit the water parks, not totally unheard of in December? or is it?

What do you think

Also, if we stay the extra day, I it would cost a total of 372 points for the 6 nights! UGGH, I would have to borrow 95.

Also, instead of x-mas gifts for my inlaws who live in Florida, we would invite them over to stay with us say 12/30 and 12/31, they would love it, and what a treat to be at WDW for NYE? (thas is why I am thinking of taking the 2 bedroom - and I don't want to take it for just those two nights, I don't like to move around!!!)

You thoughts?

The problem with those two nights is that they are weekend points. We originally had a 2 bedroom for 12/31-1/10, but we changed to a 1 bedroom 12/31 and the 2 bedroom 1/1-1/10. It saves us about 25 points, and that will help with our March trip.

I think you are right that the crowds will dwindle on the 2nd. We have done the first week of January several times, and by mid week, there is NO ONE there! Last time we did NYE, the crowds were gone by the 3rd. I can't remember what day of the week it was that year. With New Years on Sunday, I would suspect many will be going home Sunday and Monday, but I could be wrong. We find that if we tour the parks very early in the day and spend the crowded times back at the resort, we fare better. We often save Epcot for evenings during crowded times, because it is open longer. MK will be the worst for crowds, but it is our least favorite park, so we will wait until later in the week to visit there.

Well.....hmm. Does the family who may come with you have AP's? Will they need to buy park tix? On one hand even if they do need to buy tix, the holiday decor and goings on may be worth it even if you don't get to do much because it's so crowded. On the other hand, if they're the type who feels they have to get as much in as possible because they spent the $$ on park tix and only get onto 2 or 3 rides because it's so mobbed....they're not going to be overly happy. If they don't have to buy tix though or have AP's and will be happy doing Non-park things then I'd say go for it and enjoy. Just intend to take things at a much slower pace and be laid back with a "whatever we get to do, we get to do" attitude;)

As for the weather and the waterparks...could go either way. Dec. can be in the 80's during the day and great pool weather and could also be much much more chilly. Ya just never know..ya could luck out though.

Whatever you decide, just make sure if your family does decide to come with that they aren't going to back out on you last minute. The last thing you need is to borrow those points and then they back out on you.

Best of luck deciding!:)

I thought about just using the 2 bedroom on the 12/30 and 12/31, I know its the weekend, but those are the nights we need them to fit the inlaws. But myhusband hates moving around or having to deal with things (guess he can be a real pansy at times!!! :rotfl: ) So its either 1 bedroom for the whole stay or 2 bedroom for the whole stay.

I am one of those that doesn't plan things, but I think that time of year, I would probably have to do the priority seating, and all that, we usually eat in a few times, but how far can you plan ahead, isn't it just 90 days?

I may just go for it, the airfare is still outrageous, but hey, you only live once!!!

I wouldn't be spending any points anywhere until I got a firm "yes" from my family as to whether or not they want to go.

Lay out the deal and tell them to decide.

I think I came up with a solution that will make all happy!!!

instead of going 12/28-1/2, we are going 12/29 - 1/4, granted the kids will miss 2 days of school, but I don't think the world will come to an end!!!

Anyone know how busy the resorts/DVC is after New Years and should the parks quiet down on 1/2 and 1/3???

thanks again for all your help!

As I said in my earlier post, I expect things to quiet down a lot on Monday. When we were there 6 years ago, the holiday was also on the weekend, and the crowds were gone by the 2nd.

thanks, I am beyond excited!! Even was able to book airfare out of JFK for 250 pp nonstop! I was looking at 500pp non-stop out of Bradley, just saved a few bucks there, was gonna get a car, but forget it, where do I find out how long the magical express is running, and can it be used just one way, think I may use it from the airport to the resort, but then use Tiffany or something else on the return.

ME is running during the celebration - which is 18 months long, so you will be covered. You can certainly take it one way, but why would you pay to take it back if its free? We saw the buses picking up plenty of times at POFQ last weekend, so I am sure that they run often enough to get you there reasonably.

Have fun!!!

Well...since you asked...

I'd probably move the vacation...go down 12/30 and stay until 1/6...take the 2 BR...cheeper points begin after the new year. I'd kick myself for having my kids miss a few extra days, but I'd love the heck out of being at WDW on NYE AND enjoying the relaxed atmosphere of the week after New Years....

....You didn't ask for practical...but that is likely what I would do ;)

Have a great time, whatever you decide!
