My husband has offered to take me to DW May 19-23 for a quickie trip. My mother recently passed away, and of course her birthday falls during that week. I told him I wanted to "run" away that week... I, of course, was all excited - where else but DW can you forget your troubles?? Now, I'm thinking - too hot, too crowded, "can I get two days work off", "can he get work off"...My husband says, "so what, we'll just relax and lie around the pool", but I know the siren call of TOT, SM, etc  will be too much for him to bear.....I'm so confused. BTW - we're heading to DW for an entire week in Oct for MNSSHP......

Is this a trick question? Of course I would go! :teeth:

Absolutely go... maybe even think of a small, personal ritual you could do to "remember and honor" your mother. Now, environmentalists, please don't flame me, but every year since my grandmother died, my mom, sister, me and my kids release balloons in the air to my grandma (my mom's mom) on her birthday. My mom also got some memory candles and burns them on her mom's birthday, anniversary of her death and other days she feels are special to her or when she's missing her.

Yes go!!! I did the same thing after my husband and mother died. Disney is a great place to remember the memories and not the pain of losing a loved one.

What a great idea! we never do anything to commemorate my dad, well, except eat keilbasa & baked beans(his favorite.)

I think a trip to WDW might be just the ticket for cheering you up at a most difficult time. I lost my dad 2 years ago, then my bio-dad last summer, and I can tell you that first year is so hard. Anything you can do to make things easier is okay. You have a great hubby who understands that. Just take the time and go. I hope you have a wonderful time.

I can only tell you that I recently lost my father. And if he thought I was sitting aroung mourning when I could be at Disney, he'd kick my butt!

Go. Find happines any chance you get.

My bio-dad was very upset last summer when he was dying and it disrupted our big family reunion. He promised me he'd make it up to me some day. I imagine when the estate gets settled we will head down to WDW. He'd be spinning in his grave if he thought i was gonna do something boring with his money.

I know most moms are the same way. They want their kids to be happy. Even when they can't be around to see it.

No matter where you are, you will remember her during that time. Why not do it where you know you will be with your DH all the time (vs being separated by the day to day rat race of working if you stay at home) and in a place where you can watch families interacting, making memories, and remembering how wonderful your mom was. I'm sure it will be bittersweet--but its so magical there--it can't help but make it more sweet than bitter.

Thank you one and all for encouraging me to go. My mother always loved the EPCOT Flower and Garden exhibits when she use to go to DW on our family trips, so enjoying that will be done in memory of her. :sunny: As all of you have commented, she'd be having a fit if she knew I gave up a trip anywhere because I was missing her. We'll be making arrangements today!!
