We are currently booked at POR for 6 nights in October. The reason we are booked at POR is because DH and I fell in love with it last December. This trip is going to be for 4 adults and 3 kids (13, 12 and 11). We will be celebrating Great Grandma's 80th birthday. Great Grandma loved POP and I have explained to her that we are staying at a different resort this time with a more tone down atmosphere and beautiful gardens, which, I know she will love. Plus, the kids (me LOL) will be able to rent bikes and rent a boat on our off days. Of course, I have also considered staying at POP the first 3 nights and the switching to POR or CR :rolleyes: for the last 3 nights. Oh yeah, I just started considering the Contemporary too!! :blush: Since, we are doing MNSSHP on friday and redoing MK on sunday I think it will be a breeze to just be able to walk there :scratchin . It will only be about $150 more per room to do this booking a garden room ( I will probably upgrade to Tower at check in , but, that's another story ). We have never stayed at the Contemporary and like everybody else I dreamed as a child to stay in the "Monorail Hotel" and I know Great Grandma will love it too!! I already read all the reviews of the Contemporary , I know about it's pros and cons and I'm fine with it. We have switched hotels before when the kids were 7 and 9 and now that the kids are older they can pack and unpack themselves ,so, I believe it will be a lot easier this time. Although, I didn't mind doing it before.

What would you do I my situation?? Stay put in POR or go thru the switch-a-roo??

:confused3

I think if you're going down to celebrate great grandma's b-day then you should stay where she wants to stay (at POP) and then if you do the change half way through the stay, do it to either Contemporary or POR. After all- aren't b -days celebrations supposed to be based around what the b-day persons wants? I'm sure there will be plenty of other stays for you to stay at the other resorts as well.

Is the POP the only Disney resort great grandma has stayed at? If so, then I would treat her to a stay at POR and the Contemp. I think the Contemp. would be great since it is on the monorail and it is so close to the MK -- where you say you are taking her.

If she has already stayed at other mods or deluxes, and still prefers POP, then I would stay at the POP to please her.

:wave:

I truly believe you should weigh out all of the reasons you have chosen the resort.

I think that wherever GG wants to stay, you should stay there. If she is just "going along" for her b-day, you should do what you want. If this is actually a celebration for GG, let GG pick the place. You never know how many more birthday's she will have where she will get to decide how to celebrate. Make it a great one for her.

If she wants to stay at PC because of the money and you guys are paying, then maybe taking her some place nicer would be a huge surprise to her. If she prefers the atmosphere and it makes her feel like a kid again, let her have her way and stay at PC.

PS - We are staying in PC next June for my b-day. That was my choice. I will be a young 30 something, but I would rather spend the cash on character dining and such instead of a room I will hardly spend time in.

If the reason for the trip is to celebrate her b'day, then you should probably stay where she prefers to stay. Not being sure of how spry she is,,theres often more walking invovled at POR. I believe(check the POP FAQ)they now have the surrey bikes to rent at pop.(recent addition.) As a compromise,,I'd do a split stay between POP(where g'ma likes)and CR,,(convienent to monorails for MK and MNSSHP). If she's stated she likes POP,,then you should do what she wants,,if its for her b'day,,especially if you asked her where she wanted to stay.

Yes, Grandma has only stayed onsite at POP. She loved all the memorabilia and one day while she was sitting by the lobby, she started singing along to "Only You". I have never, ever, heard her singing before and when I asked her about the song she said grandpa used to sing it to her and she had a big smile on her face when she said that to me :lovestruc . So, you can see why she loved POP ::yes::

Anyway, I spoke to DH about this and he absolutely loved the idea of being able to walk to the MK.He said let's stay 2 days at POP and 4 days at the Contemporary. He said if the Contemporary is not available to check the Polynesian or the Grand Floridian. Ooops , I better add more money to my budget :earseek: .

Grandma is very energetic , but, she is starting to slow down now and she refuses to even consider to rent a wheelchair. So, If we stay at the Contemporary she will have the option to walk back to the hotel to rest while we are at the MK.

For those who have stayed at the Contemporary ... I know it has all this energy to it, but, can you also relax while staying there?? It just looks so busy..What exactly do you do there to relax??

I just want to make sure I am making the right decision. Your honest opinion will be appreciated.:wave2:

I haven't stayed at the Contemp. yet, but I just wanted to say that I think you made a great choice -- shorter time at the POP for Grandma to reminisce, then on to a monorail resort. She will love being in a deluxe.

::yes::

I haven't stayed at the Contemporary either, but I think you've made the right choice. It will give GG a couple of days to soak up all the nostalgia at Pop, then you'll be moving to a deluxe resort that'll be much more convenient for her. :D
