What would you do?

I would definitely stay Fri night at a non DVC WDW resort, especailly since you would have to borrow pts for the Fri night.
I think that maybe some might not be real familiar with just how wonderful the other non DVC WDW resorts are and just how nice they are to stay in for a night or two. The individual theming between WDW resorts, which is in everything from the landscaping to the rooms, pools, restaurants, etc., is incredible and a lot of fun to experience. I love the DVC resorts but I also really enjoy staying at the other WDW resorts for a few days. Moving resorts could not be made any easier than at WDW unless they provided personalized individual transport from resort to resort. People go to a hotel for one or two nights all the time and manage to have a wonderful time, what is so different at WDW? Like a previous post said, pack a bag for just the night and you will be surprised at how enjoyable it will be. I just came back from a 10 day trip and we stayed the first 2 nights at the Poly, the next 5 nights at BWV and the last 2 nights at YC. We had a ball and really enjoyed all 3 resorts. I would not have changed a thing and I saved enough pts from avoiding both Fri and Sat nights for more nights during my next trip in Sept!!

I would stay at my home resort on friday night. Although you have to borrow the points, presumably you have plenty because you banked some this year. I hate to move and to me it diminishes the joy of the trip. I would rather just check into "home" and be "home" and let that be the end of it. This way I can get up bright and early the next morning and hit the parks and not worry about having to pack up, check in, and then come back to get settled again. Too much precious vacation time and for me, a serious case of "penny wise and pound foolish."

Like EVERYTHING at WDW it all depends on many factors and what you want and enjoy while on a WDW vacation. For someone that enjoys experiencing all the WDW resorts and wants to spend time at the resort and in their restaurants, pools, doing the resort activities, etc., and are not someone that has to be at the parks bright and early every morning; staying at various WDW resorts during a trip is very enjoyable and much desired. It is certainly not penny wise and dollar foolish at all.

My guess is that most people would not even THINK about moving for just one night if it were a weeknight where the points cost is lower. I can't imagine why a DVC owner would want to "spend time at the resort and in their restaurants, pools, doing the resort activities, etc" at an all star resort... not that they are bad as value resorts, but they are nowhere near at the level of what we are used to at DVC.

I know lots of people save points by not staying at DVC on the weekends, but I prefer to look at the overall cost of the vacation, not the "per night" cost. We bought enough points so that we can do that, so as I said FOR ME a case of "penny wise and pound foolish." Even if we don't go to the parks bright and early I'd prefer to not spend my precious vacation time packing, moving and checking in and out of places anymore than I have to. For others who value their points more highly than the time involved to do this, they can do whatever they want. I was just offering my opinion and the way I look at it.

If it's not going to hurt you with your next vacation, I would borrow points and stay at BW.

Last winter we stayed 12 days and to save points and also because we wanted to experience AKL, we stayed 5 days at OKW and moved to AKL for Fri. and Sat. and then to BWV for 5 days. It seemed like we lost a day each time we moved; I would never do it again if I could possibly help it.
