I had an appointment for a haircut at 12 noon. I arrived at 1145 and checked in. At 1155 the receptionist picks up a phone call, then walks around to each hair dresser asking if they want anything because "insert my hairdressers name" is stopping at Starbucks. She then composed a long list and gave it over the phone. At 1215 I asked the receptionist if it was going to be much longer, she said just a few minutes. My hairdresser arrives at 12 39 with several trays of coffee. She comes over to get me now 1245 and apologizes for being late, says she had car trouble. You know as if I had not just witnessed the entire thing with my own eyes as it unfolded. I was upset. I really needed a haircut, so I waited. I'm still miffed about the wait and lie. I did not tip well, and will not be going back. I've had her cut my hair twice before. While she does an ok job, it's nothing special I just get a trim. I usually tip 25% today I left only 10%. I am still mad at myself for not speaking up.

I wouldn't have waited for 40 minutes. If she wasn't there when I got there I'd give her 10-15 minutes top then I'd leave.

I would have asked at 12:15 if there was another stylist available to trim me as I was aware that my scheduled stylist had just taken a lengthy coffee order and clearly wasn't interested in keeping me as a client.

If they said no, i likely would have bailed.

I would have spoken up. Especially since she wouldn't have been late if she had not stopped at Starbucks even WITH car trouble (or at least not nearly AS late). The fact she then tried to blame it on the car, when it was obvious that it wasn't 100% that, would have been the thing that did it for me. I would not have tipped at all, I would have spoken to the owner, I would never go back, AND I would be posting everywhere I could about the horrible service you received.

Now, my hairdresser is almost always a bit late. However, she is the first one who ever figured out a good cut for my hair and I also consider her a friend. So for her I often look past it (plus, she always gets me a good deal or throws in something free to make up for her "issues").

winner!

My "tip" would have been a suggestion not to leave your customer waiting while getting coffee.

That would have ticked me off. I am also allergic to bad customer service and the moment I heard she was going to stop off at Starbucks, either 2 things I would have done because I am mouthy: Tell the receptionist to tell her to get there now because her appointment is waiting OR tell the receptionist to tell the hairdresser to take her time because she no longer had a client who was going to wait for her.

OP, I would have wanted to say something, but I probably wouldn't have. I always think of the right thing to say 2 days later. But without a doubt, I'd never go back.

I'd get the heck out of dodge. That is RUDE. She's on your time not vice versa.

I am mad at myself for just taking it. The fact that it is still bothering me hours later just makes me more mad.

wow..I cant believe that!! I can understand her running behind schedule because she is actually there and with a client, but to not hurry and come in because you were waiting, is terrible! I would have left after waiting for 20 mins. You technically waited an HOUR for an "okay' haircut. Good decision on not going back again!!

Sometimes, stuff can throw us off. You can still call the shop, talk to the manager and tell them what happened and that the business lost a customer because of it.

The moment I heard about the Starbucks' order, I would've asked to speak to a manager. If one wasn't available or sympathetic, I would've left right then and never been back, then I would've been burning up the internet the rest of the day with bad reviews of that hairdresser and of that business establishment!

If I really needed the haircut, I would have let her cut it. Then, when paying, I would have left no tip at all and told her that she got no tip because she lied to you (telling her you heard the whole coffee thing), and the say you would not be coming back. In fact, I might even ask for a discount on the cut!

I don't like confrontation, either, but that was just unacceptable.

I don't quite understand why taking a coffee order trumps the appointment a customer has booked minutes later. Can people not wait a little longer for a coffee?

I wouldn't have tipped at all- I think the way she acted was rude and not appropriate considering you were waiting to get your hair cut. :)

In the stylist's defense, maybe the Starbucks was right next to the place she was getting her car fixed so she ran over there while she was waiting?

Yeah, I am not buying that either!! :rotfl:

Depending on what kind of a mood I was in depends on what I would have done. But I probably wouldn't have waited 45 mins no matter what.

If I were in a snarky mood I probably would have said to the receptionist when I heard her taking drink orders something like: "I assume she is going to buy me something, to make up for my wait time?"

Most likely though I would have made it very obvious that I was not happy about the wait by constantly looking at my watch. After about 15 or so mins I probably would have told her that I couldn't wait much longer and could someone else take care of me? If there wasn't anyone anyone available within the next few mins I would have walked. Or asked for a manager/owner to let them know I was unhappy with the wait before I left.
