What would you do?

Our friends that are joining us had asked to come along, and thought it would be a good idea to get their own room since they have twin 4 yr olds that you would think wake up with a can of red bull in their hands. They asked how much it would be for a room of their own. I went with the $10 per point route knowing that they were still getting a screaming deal for a 1 bedroom. They had no problem with the price, I was just curious what the average price my fellow dvc'ers would charge, if at all. Thanks for all the responses!
It sounds like you worked out the price up front and if so, that is a very fair price. I'd agree with the idea that it depends on how it was set up and who invited them. However, you should realize that at $10 for a 1 BR, they will pay more than they might otherwise pay for such a trip. Hopefully they see the value in such an option and are happy with that. Realize that many people have the sense that once owned, a timeshare is free to use. While WE all know differently, I've seen that theme MANY times.

:) We are hoping to take a family with us next year with two children ages 7 and 12 at time of travel. We have not asked and will not ask for any compensation. They are responsible for their own food and tickets and will drive down while DH and I fly. I am definitely getting them their own room, probably will only be able to do a studio unless we add on. DH and I do not have children so hence a little separation is the best way for us. I hope to show them the ropes and let them have lots of family time, maybe meeting up for meals. I want this to be a trip for their children and think that if DH and I had not offered a very nice room at AKV they never would have gone.

This is the only couple that DH and I have ever considered taking outside of our own family and I am really excited about seeing the kids reaction. IF they do not go then we will make our annual Fall pilmgrimage to the Happy Place with my parents. Luckily if someone cancelled, DH's Mom or my perents would fill in for us--happily, they all LOVE AKV.

We do not charge friends however; they normally do buy meals etc.

Next year we are hoping to again go to VGC. I am shooting for 2, one bedrooms for 5 nights (one for us, one for them). We are planning on going for 7 days so, the deal is they will pay the hotel for the other 2 days- in LA. I feel it is fare all around.

I wanted to go back and expound somewhat on this subject. When we invite guests, we do not charge them. We do this routinely at least once every 2 years. IMO, $10 is a very fair price to rent to friends but it's likely more than many would charge in the situation stated. Every circumstance is different and such a question could fall anywhere from renting to a friend or relative at a fair but reasonable price to trying to help someone out with little or no personal cost. I think most members trying to hit a win-win situation would charge somewhere between the applicable dues on those resorts and a max of $12 a point with most in the $8-10 a point or below. I would always suggest agreeing to a price up front so as not to have different expectations. Even at a truly fair or reduced price, some will think you're overcharging them.

I think that's very fair, and they are getting a great deal in the bargain.

I am dying laughing about the part that I have bolded. I've known a few kids like that, too. I can't imagine having two of like that, though!
