The Christmas week idea is not an issue, we are just trying to decide weather or not to buy into DVC since we go 4+ times a year and staying Boardwalk Villas next trip, or keep GF and concider DVC at a later date. I mostly wanted to hear from those of you that have it to see if it's worth it for us.
.

Hi all, I have a question for all of you DVC fan's. Would you cancel a week at the GF Nov30-Dec 7 in favor of buying into DVC and staying at the BWV 2 weeks later over Christmas day?

TIA!

YES:goodvibes
I think your asking the wrong crowd;)
Seriously.....can you get a room over xmas with your points.
Happy planning

I was going to say what alldiz said -- your sample is skewed here! You might get totally different answers if you posted the same question on the DIS Resorts forum.

But I would cancel and buy DVC! of course! :goodvibes

Stay at BWV for Christmas yes but just not this Christmas as I suspect it is fully booked! So I would say buy and plan on booking in January at the 11 months window for Christmas 2009.

I would keep the GF reservation. The first part of December is much, much slower than the mad house during Xmas week and as others have pointed out, it probably is impossible to get a unit during Xmas week. Some people like going during the busiest period of the year at Disney but most, I think, try to avoid it. The first part of December gives you the same Xmas feeling, especially if you go to MVMCP during one of the evening. Keep the GF.

I said to keep your reservation at the GF, first as others have indicated, do you think you can get a reservation at the BWV over Christmas this late in the year? Secondly, as happy as I am about owning DVC now, to go to WDW over the Christmas holiday would not be enjoyable to me.
Nov 30th to Dec 7th is a great timeframe, it is not that crowded but yet you get to enjoy the decorations in the parks and in the resorts.
Stay at the GF this year, and plan your vacation for next year at the BWV.

I've been at WDW Christmas day twice and would take the 1st week of December.

One other thing to consider. If you wanted BCV to be your home resort, you would have to either buy resale or be put on a waiting list for BWV points. Either way, you may not have the points in your account for several months, probably precluding any chance of even having points by Christmas 2008. If you don't have BWV as your home resort, your chances of getting it over Christmas at 7 months out any year will not be very good.

This is too close to December to be asking the question for this year. Go and enjoy the GF!

At this point, there is virtually no chance of getting a 2 week reservation at the BWV for December 2008. Sorry. :(

You can't be serious to even ask this question. GF looks like a freakin' trash heap in this scenario.

Since you go to WDW 4 times a year and tend to stay at deluxe resorts, then yes, my suggestion is that you look into DVC.

From your posts, are you already booked at BWV at Christmas? Becuase you may want to try out a DVC stay before you commit to buying in. That is what I did. I ended up staying at SSR on the trip that I planned to buy AKV so that I could try out one of the DVC resorts.

I did just that. I was going to stay a week at the contemporary for a cost of $3000. I decided to use that money to buy into DVC.
My buy in cost was $13800 -$3000 I was going to spend for 1 week so the total cost was actually $10,800 and I got to stay in a 1 bedroom boardwalk view for 5 days the 1st year and 2 nights in an ocean front inn room at VB.

I will be going to Disney in April as my children are part of the Disney magical days (they will be dancing) and since it is Easter week (peak Time) to stay retail is $3300 in a regular room and I will be staying in a Boardwalk view studio for the cost of my MF of about $836. NOT BAD!!!!!! And I get to go back for the next 34 years!!!!!!!!!!!

This will be our 5th trip and we have just $2300 to go to break even. I calculate what retail would be for the room (apprx) and then add on my MF for the year to come out what my total cost would be. After our 6th trip (less then 5 years after we bought in) we will break even!!

I'd stay at the BWV and see, if you have that reservation. I like the DVC one and two bedroom Villas for a week with my family - the kids sleeping in another room makes it all worthwhile. But I do miss the Deluxe resorts, and I personally don't feel DVC is kept up to Disney Deluxe standards (and frankly, that Disney Deluxes aren't kept up to high end resort standards, but they are on site - for the money, there are nicer hotels in Orlando if you don't mind off site). There are a lot of variables to the decision and everyone will weight them differently.

Come on. You are the supersmartguy. No need for any help from us ;)

But, I definately would cancel GF and buy DVC in a heartbeat.

Given the choices and assuming ressies would be solid, NO QUESTION, DVC!

But being supersmart you already knew that.......right? :confused3
