DH & I have been planning a trip for June 11 '07 since January and after months of trying to get a job, he just got hired for a part-time position (by United airlines of all folks (pending all the clearances go through without a hitch of course)) and is scheduled to start work on May 14th.

Here's my question...what would you do in this case? I checked about cancelling our June trip and hoped to bank the points, but alas we can't bank the points, they need to be used by November 30 '07. :headache:

I don't want to loose the points! :sad2: I want to go to Disney!!! I NEED to go to Disney!! :rotfl2:

Any thoughts on how to handle this I'd appreciate it!

Thanks in advance!

See if you can reschedule for later in the year - early September is probably easy to get. Or you could always go with a couple of friends instead:dance3:

Michelle,

Congratulations to your DH on his prospective position! and also to you for your encouragement to him during the interim.

I take it that the trip is booked on mostly Dec'05 points? (Given the expiration of Nov 30, 2007 and knowing that Dec'06 points may be banked 100% through May 31, 2007.)

If so ... could you consider any of the following:
  • Reschedule trip to Sept or Oct as suggested above. I'm sure the new employer would appreciate the lead time!
  • Bank the points with II towards a future exchange vacation?
  • Use the points through BVTC or Concierge (?) Collections for a less schedule-disruptive getaway?
  • Rent out the points
  • Trade reservations with another DVC owner? (You provide their vacation this summer ... and they book something for you later down the road?)
  • ???
I'm sure you'll find many creative ideas for using the points while also giving you both something to which to look forward.

I understand your *need* for a Disney fix ... but hang in there! You can do it! Congrats again on DH's good news.

Did he mention that he already had vacation plans when he was hired? I was in a position like that before. I told them when they offered me the job (I'm a nurse) that I would accept it but I had a trip scheduled that was already "bought and paid for". I was able to go on my trip AND take the job. If he can't do that.....I would definately still go and bring someone with me. If I couldn't find anyone to go with me...I'd still go!!

We're thinking about rescheduling, but are kind of hoping to still be able to go (we've bought tickets for The Blue Man Group for the 17th, so even for a quick weekend trip).
But I had a couple of questions...what is "Bank the points with II towards a future exchange vacation?" and what is BVTC? Thanks!

He's had a couple of interviews for other jobs and when he's mentioned the June trip they've never called him back or they give him that look of "you think you're gonna go on vacation just when you start?" So this time he didn't mention it; the funny thing is he didn't think they would actually hire him on the spot. The interview was only suppose to take 45 minutes and it lasted almost 3 1/2 hours!

I've thought about taking a couple of friends - but I already have that trip planned for November. This was suppose to be our trip (b/c of Star Wars (DH is total fan) and we were gonna drive down and visit Sea World & Universal too). Hopefully we can reschedule for later on. I've been wanting to go for MNSSHP but thought about that for next year's trip (maybe we'll go this year instead!) :)

Do what I'd do.......Go without the hubby :thumbsup2

That was the first thing I told DH! You should have seen the look of disappointment in his face!!! The quivering lip and all! :lmao:

Thanks everyone for responding! DH has been trying to find a job (after being out of the working field since 2002) and it hasn't been easy. The past 4+ years he's helped to take care of my parents while I worked (it's so hard being an only child and trying to take care of elderly parents - thank God for my DH!); my mom passed away in 2002 and my dad came to live with us and this past December we had to put dad in an assisted living place (he has dementia and other problems). So since then he's been looking and now that he's been hired (which also means "free" airline tickets!! :woohoo: ) we don't want to jeopardize it.

Thanks again for the responses!

hugs to you and hubby Michelle,,
not an easy call by any means,, but I agree --think of all those free tickets and discounts are going to be wonderful.
Congrats to your Hubby:cheer2:

Both Interval International and Buena Vista Trading Company fall under the heading "World Passport Collection" in your DVC Vacation Planner book. They are tools for using your DVC points to stay at non-DVC timeshare resorts. Exchanges through II run a full week per stay (7 nights) while the BVTC allows for shorter stays.
