What would you do???

I would call the branch manager at the other branch and inform them of what is going on. There are huge legal ramifications if this child gets hurt or does something to get someone else hurt.

I totally agree with this. I'd call the branch manager and say, "I don't really want to be a tattle-tale, but so-and-so brought her 11 year-old to work today and I'm afraid he could get injured the way he's riding around in his Heely's." Management should know!!!!

I guess I would lean the other way and approach the woman directly. Tell her your concerns, ask her if it's possible for her to take him home after lunch. She probably didn't think this through. If you're nice about it, voicing your concern for her son, she should understand. It's not like you're saying "Your kid is driving me crazy!"
BTW-what kind of an OM leaves for the week and doesn't assign a 2nd in command? Surely someone there is the senior or boss when the boss is gone?

I would say the bolded part to myself and say nothing to the office manager. Let it go. Yes, it will be annoying, but try to be understanding. If the child is there again tomorrow say something directly to her along the lines of it being a safety concern and a work distraction. If she still doesn't get it maybe it is time to tattle, but tattleing should never be your first response.

I'm going to disagree with you on this one. If he gets hurt today, especially while wearing those heeley's, the company is liable. It's a safety issue. We live in a "sue happy" world and if he gets hurt, it could turn into a legal battle at worst. Why should her company have to pay when he should not be there in the first place without prior approval?

We have a similar policy in the office I work in. Kids are not allowed past the lobby area when they are visiting due to the liability. We have only had one exception and that was cleared with our facilities/bldg security person first. If they are caught past the lobby area, the parent/employee will be told and they will be escorted back to the lobby area.

I would just ignore it. It really isn't your business. Would you like if someone told your OM that you are DISing instead of working? DISing is fun too.

I would call the Branch Manager who is at the other location and let them know there is a situation at your office that needs to be dealt with. I don't think its tattleing when there are safety concerns. Your boss would be really upset with all of you (I know I would be) if something happens and no one said anything.

I work with the Safety Committee at my company. No child is allowed in work areas, such as a warehouse. If no one says no, the company is liable for any accidents. If something really serious happens, OSHA can prosecute. This is a bad situation, especially if he's on wheels.

Call the branch manager, tell him what's going on, and have him simply show up and discover the kid. No need to wear a rat jacket, so to speak.

Tell someone quickly, or you all could be liable.

He knows....i show him stuff all the time on here. And this is a totally different situtation....he could seriously get hurt....

I don't think Dising and the fact that this kid could get hurt are anywhere close!

I would say something only due to the fact to save my hide should something happen. What if something does happen to the kid and you get in trouble because you didn't say something. I would say to the mom - do you really think it is safe for him to be here? She knows it is wrong - otherwise she would do it when the boss is there!
